Question How rare is a 69 Mach 1 SCJ????

Everyone,

I stopped by to see a cousin yesterday and he had picked up a 69 Mach 1 Super Cobra Jet. Its in pretty decent shape, just needs some new floor pans. All the orig paint and engine #'s remain. It runs good, but has a slight exhaust leak.

All in All, its pretty sweet with the shaker hood, all the Shelby logo/trim pieces.

He was pretty psyched, he picked it up for a wholloping 4,700.00$$

I don't know much about the mustangs, but this is one of the best I have seen yet....

Is there any value/collectability in this???

Thanks

That thing sounds like a POS. Tell him that I am willing to give him his money back to help him get over his mistake. J/K about the POS part, not kidding about buying it for what he paid. It is probably worth at least 10K in the shape you describe.

Tundra,
To my knowledge the only Mustangs that were S/C'd back then were the Shelbys, and only with the 289. I could be wrong.BTW I love Mach's thier styling is awesome

Thumbs up

Brian,
I own a 69 mach1 428cj in nice shape.I had
an insurance appraisal done last year and it came in at $13,800.00.The scj option came with a stronger lower end (rods&crank)and some other features. The easiest way to tell if it is an scj is if it has a oil cooler
mounted on the front of the radiator cowling.
If he wants to sell for a decent profit send me an e-mail.

Mol428cj,

It does have the cooler. It has the 2 R's in the VIN #.

Not sure he wants to sell as he is a "Mustang Head". He also has has I believe a 65 350 GT?? That one is in a lot rougher shape.

This is the same guy who spent 5K to get the Mac Tools, limited edition Mustang tool box... Don't ask me.....

Later

Brian

Hell, if I had 5k to spend on a toolbox, I'd have the money to spend on a PRISTINE 69 SCJ!

A Cobra Jet became a "Super Cobra Jet" when it was optioned with the drag pack.
A fully restored one will fetch anywhere from $25-28K.
Damn right he got a good deal. Especially since it all #'s matching original for only $4700. damn, was it an old lady or something?

But why does it have Shelby logos? Maybe it was a 1970's ricer who owned it? Does it have dual 6" tips?

Cool

I like ANYBODY that spends $5000 on a tool box. The "trick" that we used on locating SCJ heads in the boneyards (guess that dates me) was to remove a valvecover bolt over the exhaust port and see if the bolt hole goes all the all threw into the port.
