Question What is "THE CLUNK"?

Mine is making a noise when I back up, and I was wondering if that might be it.

Do a search and read the FAQ. This subject has been beaten to death. You'll find plenty of good info.

Summary: There are two sources of the clunk: the steering stops and a sliding bolt.

Get more info from a search and the FAQ.....it's all there.

After Ford's third attempt to fix the problem, "The Clunk" is the sound that goes off in the Service Manager's head when you ask "Is it fixed?"

Isn't it more like a popping, smashing, crunching sound as you smack the service manager on the head with his phone?

I'm working on the road in a small town right now and the Ford service guy didn't know what a lightning or SVT was. I decided that I was too busy to drop the truck off.

That's the only time I hear it too - backing up and turning the wheels.

That's it. That's when mine does it. Do you know what it is? I've had mine for less than a month and don't even have 2000 miles yet, and it's been doing it since I got it. I don't know how serious it is, but it is annoying.

The clunk is the sound in the engineer's brain when they finally come up with a "better idea".

Yeah, I've heard a bunch about it. 351stang is right, it's been talked to death. Basically what I understand the problem to be is the bolt in the left-side upper control arm is slipping inside its oval-shaped hole. Some say its because of the wax applied to the frame. People have told me it might take you out of alignment and wear your tires down. So far, I'm just ignoring it...

Actually it's the sound of the service manager's and the ford tech's heads making contact as they lean overthe engine to verify we have intercoolers.
Actually thats more of a hollow "BONK!"
We've all got that one.
