Cool

Yep, get a WS6 for purty burnouts and smoking the tires. Get a L for hooking up off the line, and smoking the competition.

The L will roast them as well as anything once they're broken in, but it hooks up better than the typical V8 musclecar, and astoundingly well for a truck.

I bet Mom doesn't pack 295-45-18s that are so soft that getting 10000 miles is a challange. Also smoking tires is a sign of chassis trouble. I bought the L to GO and not sit and smoke.

I was on the SVTperformance site earlier this morning. One of the chip tuners mentioned that ford has a built in parameter in it's stock lightning computer called torque reduction. When you stab the throttle the computer pulls out a bunch of timing to give you better controll during hard takeoffs. (Sounds like a lame attempt at traction controll "Thanks Ford") He also went on to say they can get rid of that parameter with a chip.
And all this time I had assumed it was because the tires were new and sticky when the truck was new and unchipped.
Learn something new everyday.

ECKOsvt,

If you nail it from a stop, you will have wheelspin galore, even around 40 to 50 mph and nail it you can expect wheelspin.

Enjoy and drive safe.

I don't know about wheelspinning while moving (bone stock), but I was doing brakeless burnouts with my '01 on the day I brought it home. I didn't know you were supposed to have the brakes on.

When I first got my truck she had trouble spinning em w/o brakes. Now that I have 800 miles on the spedo, if I step on it, she eats gravel 'til I let up. Even then they spin for a good 20-30 yards. Demonstrated below:

Put red tail lights on it and that's what mine has always looked like since about 1k miles and no mods with a good stomp and NO powerbraking. Even in summer heat. But my friend's identical truck NEVER would, and would only barely spin with powerbraking. Go figure.

Well....mine now has over 600 miles on it and it is getting better everyday. When I first tried it, it would not spin AT ALL from a dead stop without the brakes. Now it will spin a little then hook up. Maybe with a few more thousand miles on it I will be able to roast them without power-braking.

Question

why would you want to spin? unless you enjoy losing races. i think a major reason the L hooks is its 4,600 lb body, no?

if u want to smoke em, powerbreak.

I was searching for a level 10 shift kit over on Sals board and it covers this topic, at least for a few people. There's an adjustment arm on the drivers side of the SC, I marked and adjusted mine.

Look for fast1matt

Maybe this is mis-adjusted on yours.

Yeah, why all the fuss? My truck would never spin the tires from a dead stop. But it took off like a rocket. I've counted my blessings. If I powerbrake it to 1200, it'll flat out roast em til I let off. But why would I wanna do that unless I'm getting new skins? That's pretty expensive smoke.
