Alarm recommendations
I'll be picking up my HD in another week and I figured if any group had experience and recommendations for a good alarm, you guys would. All I'm really looking for is something that will sound off or alert me if someone is screwing with the truck (wheels etc.) The factory system I believe will only disable the starter if someone actually breaks in and tries to drive it away (yes or no?) If that is the case, I don't really need the full blown systems with all the lock outs etc. Just something that would tap into the stock system for a little vandalism or part theft protection. Any suggestions.

I believe they make an add on for the Ford setup.
I did a Viper550 ESP w/remote starter and regret it. Now I can't install the keypad on the doors....

I have yet to get it but i am getting the clifford..its expensive like around 900 but it has exterior/interior motion sensors that can be turned off on independantly It also talks to the would be burglar. Another cool feature is the remote start window roll up/down and the fact that it will tell you what zone sensor was set off while you were gone through the stereo system. Hey HD what kind of gains did you get w/ the headers..also how do u like the SC?
Haven't had a Dyno yet, so far all I can say is awesome. Estimated flywheel HP is in excess of 400 not including headers.

Thats the reason for the pager. All I want is to know someone is trying to do something. The rest is strictly a human factor. Don't leave home without it!!

The clifford will tie in w/ any stereo system im told..i dont know if it just ties into the speakers or the head unit itself..it has interior/exterior motion sensors..door/glass/ and the microphone sensors..but like i said its the one im most impressed w/ but its also the most expensive

1BAD, btw, I'm an OU grad, 1998, MIS and live in Tulsa now. Email me at my2002lightning@hotmail.com. I have the Clifford IG9000 with the back-up battery/horn system from Car-Toys for $817 (buddy discount) and it's tweeked to be very sensitive. Loud exhausts and wind give the warning chirp. Very nice setup and I highly recommend it to anyone serious about automotive security. My last '00 F-150 was stolen last August and I'm on my second '00 F-150 Lariat (w/Clifford this time). Raw deal in every respect !!!
One question for everyone, how do I activate the stereo speaker option that tells you which zone alarm was tripped? This is a MUST HAVE! I didn't know about feature! How do I activate it and/or get installed? I wanted the feature which would call my cell phone if tripped in the middle of the night, but my salesman said that technology isn't out yet.
TIA for any info .... Later....

My first alarm on my L was/is a piece of ****, it gets the job done, but I don't feel terribly safe leaving my truck in some places....It's a CrimeStopper, a brand I've never heard, and I only bought it because I got a good deal from my friends dad who owns a car stereo shop. I'm switching to either a Clifford or a Viper Alarm, and Tampa, I was wonder why you said, "I did a Viper550 ESP w/remote starter and regret it." Is it only because you can't put the keyless pad entry on your truck?? Also I'm interested in this Clifford IG9000, anybody know where I can get more info, (i.e.: a web site?)

Can anyone shed any insight on what can be added to the factory system Ford has. I know the 01 HD's have the keypad. What does the keypad offer that the keyless entry won't do? I can't get a lot of info from the dealer, they either don't know or don't want to talk about it for some reason. Maybe I'm just no talking to the right person.

Uh, you can open your doors without the keys.
I believe you can add motion & shock sensors, roll down the windows with the remote. I don't know if they make a remote start option, though.
You can have this done aftermarket, too. Still uses the same key fob.
Hope that's what you're looking for.

The dealer I bought my 2000 HD Ford from had allready installed an alarm (450.00 extra) so I had no choice but to take it. It had keyless and a "door open" alarm set up. Not good enough for me. I had a Viper 300ESP installed yesterday (they used some of the old alarm system) with a radius alarm (fool with the truck and it goes off) as well as a pager. Cost $614.00. Would not have been anymore if I didn't have the 1st alarm, but at least I now can have peace of mind if traveling or away from truck.
