Question Here we go again! Wheel & tire questions...

Hi guys! I'm new to this forum. I am a proud owner of a 04 Gray Lightning and it's finally time to put 20 inch wheels on it. I've made the commitment to keep this truck for as long as possible (forever?) and have decided it's time to make it the way I want it (currently have 72k miles). I've done some searching in this gallery and have found a lot of good advice. However, I figured I'd post this since I really want to do this right the first time!

I think I'll spend the extra dough and get some Boze wheels in their brushed satin finish (I'm not a chrome guy). Boze has some really nice new wheels it looks like (or new since the last time I looked at their site).

is nice

is nice as well!

As you can see, I really dig the 5 spoke style!

My plan is to go with the 20x10 wheel and a tire that complements that size. My question is: what size tire gives a nice full look without any rubbing problems? Also, I don't want to have a really rough ride since this is my main ride. Are 295/45/20's good for this application?

Currently I have a 2 inch drop in the rear. I'll most likely drop it a touch more after adding the new wheels which brings me to my next question: How much can I safely drop the front and rear of my Lightning with 20's without suffering from rubbing during cornering and also avoiding "normal" curbs/parking blocks while parking?

Thanks for your help! Happy New Year!

I'm really liking the Maxx wheel. That's pretty sharp!

Agree! The Maxx wheel is nice... any ideas on rubber to cover them with?

I know what I'd put on them; but, that may not be what you like.

315/35ZR20 and 275/40ZR20

The 295/45 tires you suggest would be fine though. I have 285/35/22 tires on with no problem at a 1-2 drop. Plenty of room to go further down, too. Much more than one inch in the front will put you into parking blocks and curbs though.

Thanks for your opinion OW! How's the ride with your set? Also... I just noticed that both the Benton and the Maxx are 6 lug wheels. Since most likely they'll be custom ordered, I wonder if Boze can make a 5 lug out of those. I'll have to contact them...

The ride isn't too bad. A bit stiffer; but, I expected worse.

Thanks for chiming in T! I saw the sultan in my search and definitely will consider that, now, since it's a 5 lug. The finish looks really nice as well.

Well, I took a little look around for the sultan and it looks like Boyd doesn't make that model in a 20 inch. Ugh.. I found this one though...

Looks kind of interesting.

I checked in with Boze and they will make the Maxx wheel in a 5 lug. However, I checked a little deeper into their site and saw a Chevy sst with those wheels and I didn't like the way they looked...

I found out that they make the Smoothie II in the "old-school" finish and am now conisdering them. Has anyone seen any vehicle with Boyd Coddingtons that have their "old school" finish? I talked to the rep yesterday and he said he didn't have any pics of them on any vehicle...

You do know that Boyd's is no longer in business? They were bought by American Racing and my understanding is that they no longer produce the wheels here in the states. Rumor has it they are now done in China.

Of the Boze wheels #2 for sure. Be sure to confirm the back spacing on whatever you buy.

I'm also planning to do the 20" thing to my 2004 L (Black)
Being over in Scotland is a pain, you guys get more variety in all mods.
This is what I'm thinking of getting.
http://www.elitedirect.com/01_alloy_...=&mmake=&pmod=

They also do them in anthracite which would look awesome on the Gray L.
I've been advised to get 315 35's for rubber.

From: Colorado,
I too dream of wheels. I want that old school crager SS 5 spoke style.

Remember that if you go with a porus finish or something with groves that the break dust is a royal PITA to keep clean. Smooth is better.

I personaly like the way the 35series looks but would not consider less than 45 for me. I read somebody's comment that he got real tired of constantly checking his tire pressure because he thought they were low. Not to mention the ruffer ride. Our roads here in colorado are horrible, pot holes everywhere year around.

As far as wheel go. I was looking hard to find someone that makes a plain old chrome reverse steel wheel. Like 10wide for the rear and 6 inch for the front. I love that old school look but nobody makes them. 15"s yes threw summit but 16's or larger NO WAY. Wouldn't have to worry about brake dust but the heat might get trapped????

Most aftermarket wheels need special adapter lug nuts. I like the stock for set up with the wheel center the correct size. Is this an issue?

Oh, I love the 5 spoke you picked out. Real close to the Crager SS look.
