Post Engine Info Help

After replacing the head gasket in an attempt to stop leaking because of casting flaw, the dealer has decided to replace the engine. but as we know there are no 2000's left so they are going to put a 2001 in. they say that they will have to use some of my engine's parts since the mod's on the new engine will not match up with mine. for those of you out there that know more about this than i do, is this going to be like putting a square peg in a round hole or is this gonna work. of course they say no problem but in the very next breath they tell me that i will not be able to take advantage of the added hp in the 2001.

i would appreciate some of ya'll's input on this.

thanks,

phil

From what I've read it will work. They move over your old intake and some other stuff due to emissions concerns and some harness issues I think. But it will work. And no you won't get any of the increased hp. At least you can take comfort in the fact that your shop sounds like they know what they are doing. Others haven't been so lucky!

Thumbs down

You will probably get the old engine's intake manifold and the old (leaky) intercooler and supercharger. All the rest should be new.

They do this because the wiring harness is not a perfect fit on a 2001 engine. You can add an extension to that wire and then everything should fit. Do a search...

BEARIT, it’s amazing what the search engine here can find for you. Rarely is a question new anymore. Try it sometime. Here are two of the best threads on your subject.

There might not be any new questions but there certainly are new and updated answers. Don't be affraid to ask.
I know of a 99'L that has a complete 01' engine in it. All the mechanic has to do is lengthen one wire (harness?) about 14" to reach a sensor that Ford moved to the other side of the manifold.
It would also help if you have a good ralationship with your dealer, if you know what I mean
