Post Herbs washers

These are apparently used to fix some front end bug, did a search under herbs washers, but didn't get a lot of specific info. Can anyone explain what these are, where to get, and exactly what the bug is that they fix.

The lower A-arms tend to move relative to the bolt. Herbs washers hold them in place.

Ford don't really have a fix.

In a nutshell, the holes in the lower control arm oval-shaped, not round. Therefore, it causes the bolt to move back and forth at full lock or with the wheels turned going into a driveway. Herb's inserts fill the oval and keep the bolt from moving. Ford tried a star washer, no good. IMHO, these are THE fix, period. Of course you could weld the existing washer too but a majority of dealers will not do that.

Here's a pic of where the washers go.

Try a search on front end clunk. There is also info in the FAQ.

Cool

Put my check in the mail today. I can attest that the star washer fix doesn't. Front tires are wearing unevenly, ready to replace them, but not til I get Herb's gizmos, no use ruining another pair. Wonder if my dealer will install them under warantee?

Alphadoggy the dealer won't do it for you because it's not a Ford part. Do it youself! Very easy to do.

Hi Bill,

Whats your last Name? I do so very many of these! It gets crazy at times. I get the parts out most of the time the same day the monies arrive.

Herb, So I guess if you use your washers on the drivers side, install the front and back cam bolts on top on both sides (then all the adjustment can be done from the top), then this should take care of all the alighnment problems. One question though, If this slot(where the washers go in) was used for adjustment, then why is the slot only on the drivers side? mmmm?

Herb,

How is your truck running lately? I thought I had seen you post a pretty long list of problems one time. By the way, your washers probably saved me a set of front tires. Thanks.

Cabraco, You'll have to ask Ford that question? I don't know????

DOGMAN, I'm back in the swing of things. I now have an 01 motor with the 01 blower and upper manifold. Put the truck on the dyno last weekend and got 370hp/462ft ;-) that was with about 62 miles on the motor!! Can't wait intill she gets loose. I have a Pro-M mass air/Sal's lastest chip. Bassani cat back.
I found out that there is an sensor that has to be move from one side of the manifold to the other on the 01. About 12 to 14 inch wire harness and your done. I feel sorry for the people that had to use the old manifold!! THERE IS SOME HP IN THE 01 MANIFOLD!!! I have to take the truck back to the dealer on Monday to fix the air condition condensor that was dented by the motor change. I also have an exhaust leak on the driver's side exhaust manifold.

I just ordered the cam bolts, but I am confused. Do they go in the upper or lower control arms? Thanks, Jeff
