Post Chevrolet Silverado SS gets the "OK" for 2003

In the latest C&D, there is a small tidbit that Chevrolet has given the good word to produce the Silverso SS. At the Sema Show it had a rebored LS1 or what I believe is going to be the next Vette engine (a 6.0L V8 producing over 400hp).

We'll see, but Ford has some stiff competition.

SIMPLE:

This is coming from a chevy fan.....ME

It took 4 years for them to jump on the wagon..Too Late

The truck they are gonna produce is not going to compete.Ive had new chevies and it aint just about HP,They do not hook up under any circumstances and thats with a 14 second one

It will take a couple of years to work bugs out so they will still be behind.

last fact is I will own one but i will not get rid of my Lightning for it.By then,Ill probally be buying a new lightning or maybe a chevy SS if they make one but I will nevver forget how great Lightnings are.

Next thought. If I didnt have any kids or a wife,I would be happy living in a love shack with a 10 car garage filled with new trucks and cars and I would be in DEBT up to my coolo.Oh yea,I already am

A little bit to late their chevy, by the time 2003 comes around their won't be much of a market for that much hp. Reason I'am saying this is because gas prices will be crazy.

That would be true. Also, sooner or later the Big 3 will hit a wall when it comes to HP. We're gonna wake up one morning and there's gonna be all these nice new shiny models with the top sports model netting 180HP crank!!!

Hopefully I will not be around when it happens....

400hp wont be chit in 2003.

im just going on a hunch by what i have heard by a friend whos dad works for SVT.

i believe the lightning will have over 400hp by then.
also i have heard that they are thinking about using the 32valve engine in it in the years to come.

Chevy will come up with something reasonably close to the Lightning. C&D will test it and proclaim it King for some obscure reason...the usual rubbish. They just tested 5 convertibles and rated the Camaro 1st because they "favor cars that deliver plenty of punch and athletic competence." I've no problem with that, since the Camaro is definitely faster than the rest of the crowd. However, they rated the Mitsubishi Eclipse ahead of the Mustang GT even though the Mustang smokes it by 2.2sec 0-60 and 1.7 sec in the 1/4 mi. The Mustang also out performs it on the skidpad .82G to .78G, and slalom 60.3mph to 60.0 mph. So much for athletic competence...Maybe CD stands for Chevy Drivel.

Cool

Ford is supposed to go to 3 valve heads in '03 on all their modular motors.

I for one hope they do it. Competition improves the breed. GM doesn't have a real good history of releasing their concepts though.

That's OK, as long as it weighs less than 1800 lbs...

I agree. With all the gas stuff and electrical cars, I think the muscle car phase will finally die out.

Talking

Two years is a long way away. Gas prices may kill a lot of this kind of stuff this year and next. Look for a push to control SUV's and our fast toys to begin to pick up support late this summer after we see $2.00 & $2.50 gas.
Been here before in 74. If it's not out the door this year, it may not make it.

Thumbs up

My Motor Trend which came yeaturday is also reporting that there will be an 03 SS truck.

But will it be an extended cab or a regular cab? There are several versions of SS truck being displayed at the auto shows.

We don't have an oil shortage just a greedy oil cartel. There is no evidence to suggest that we will have $50+ per barrel oil very soon. There has been alot of money coming out of oil stocks lately. Many institutional investors see that the oil prices have leveled off and therefore they are not going long on these positions.

If oil prices do go above $50+ per barrel you can bet on a long term economic slow-down. The oil cartel won't be able to make as much money as they can right now at $25 per barrel.

What is true is that $15 per barrel oil is over for good. Back in 1997-1998 now that was nice.
