what racing rims/tires

Just recently purchased a 03 lightning. It has a built motor and currently puts down around 500 rwh. Not sure as it came with out a dyno, I talked to the tuner and he thinks it was in the mid 500 range. Still easy on it as it is cold here and will have it to the dyno in a couple of months. He seems to recall that it had around 14-15 pounds. He did the dyno tune tune about 1.5 years ago. The dyno record is on the old owners plate, they now file by vin #.

The question is what is a good rim and tire set up for the 1/4 mile?

thanks guys.

Everyone uses a 28" Slick on a 16" Rim right up to the low 11's, hi 10's.

Once at the 10 sec door step you need to step up to a 30" Slick and usually on 15" Bogarts
(they are extremely expensive and the Brake Calipers need to ground down to fit a 15" rim)

The most popular choice is prob the American Racing Baja Rims
It's a nice looking set up too

Johnny Lightning sells the rear Baja's for 135.00 ea and the slicks 175.00 ea,
620.00 for the complete rear set up
http://www.johnnylightningperf.com/s...php?cPath=2_19

However you can find them used and dam near brand new for @500.00
(check the Classified's in various forums)

15" Bogarts will run you @1K for rear Rims and 400.00 - 500.00 for rear Slicks
Used the rear set up goes for 750.00 - 1000.00 ("if" you can even find them)
Thats whats on mine in my sig pic

Thanks for the info. I did not think my pair of ET streets would do that well with the 03.

Oh so you already have rims ???
If you go full 16" Racing Slicks in 28" tall you'll get the Hoosier C07 Compound

18153 28.0/10.0-16 A 10.0" 28.0" 88.0" 8-10" 10" 12.0" 23 C07

but now there is a better compound for those running 30" Slicks

18205 30.0/10.5-15 A 10.5" 30.0" 94.0" 8-10" 10" 13.1" 22 D05

As you can see the C07 is right in the middle, the D05 the softest they offer

WORKS FOR ME, WOO HOO !!!

Dam I wish I had the rest of that picture @&%$(@$%(@$&%(@&$

Yes, I already have rims, They are alumn. 16 inch by 12" wide. I currently have 10" et street's on them, I quickly discovered they are a bit missmatched.. Having a tough time finding tires to fit. They look like the Bajah rims but are ( Pantara's? ).
So I am prepared to rebuy the rims if needed. To get a good working combo, and not to repeat the last mistake.
