01Black-SVT, I work at Ford's as well and know a number of people that work on the Lightning project. Rumor's I've been hearing lately is that the 5.4SC is going into the HD and the L's getting a new motor. Supposedly bigger and badder. Your dad heard anything about that? None of the guys I know heard anything definite.

No, we haven't forgotten the almighty GMC Syclone. I, for one, like those trucks. Thought they were way cool when they came out, although at $25k back in '91 that was a pretty penny.

However, even if they are faster than a stock Lightning, or modified to run 11s, they are a "sporty, performance" car in a truck body. Let's don't fool ourselves into thinking otherwise.

I seriously doubt a Sy could tow my 3300lb Mustang all over the country.

If Ford had come out with a hot-rod Ranger in '94 instead of a full-size F150, then I'd say Ford was doing the copying.

But they didn't.

I for one will be interested in something else IF and ONLY IF Ford dosen't come up with a fix for the I/C. We shall see when some of you '01 guys get some more miles if Ford did fix the leaky I/C problem with the '01. This is what EVERYBODY with a '99 & '00 is interested to know.
Calling 01Black-SVT
By the way, has your Dad told you anything about "the fix" for the '99/'00 I/C problems? I know there are 8966 interested L owners waiting to here about this

There was a stock syclone at the track last weekend. The best he could muster was a 14.4 @ 98mph out of the two runs I saw.

That sounds about right for a stock Syclone. Most Mags(we all know about Mag #'s) rated the Syclone's 0-60 @ 5.0 and 1/4 @ 13.8. Those were the average times, there were some better and some worse #'s. Like the Lightning, the Scyclone can be easily modified. With a few minor mods, 12's and even 11's are possible. I believe the Syclone is still one of the all-time greatest red-light racers. MT and other car mags confessed that there were no production vehicles in '91, including the ZR-1, that were faster than GMCs Scyclone from 0-40. After 40, it's all downhill. If you've ever seen one, then you'll know why. If I had to choose between the Lightning and Syclone, I would pick the Lightning. Why? Because you guys/gals would flame the hell outta me! *JK*
Because the Lightning looks way better than the Syclone and is more practical in everyday driving situations.....

Dennis and others,

I have seen some stock Sy trucks run high-13s. I didn't mean to imply that they are _definitely_ faster stock for stock...the wording may appear that way, though. Some may be, some may not.

Finding a bone stock Sy now that actually runs well would be a tough job. Most of them that are well-kept in good condition are modified.

Yellow 00 is right, though. They are done by 80mph. That is why you see the great ETs for the trap speeds they pull. Very rarely have I ever seen a bone stock or near stock on run over 100mph through the traps.

But again, just like a Fox-3 Mustang or Buick GN...you better know what you're picking on before you play, or you might get smoked big time.
