Stock boost gauge accuracy?
I noticed the stock boost gauge up at 10psi full throttle I thought it was set for 8lbs is the gauge wrong or what?

I seen several posts from our senior board members that the stock gauge is really only good for telling you whether your on or off boost. Don't know if this is fact or opinion... just passin' it along

The stock gauge is notoriously inaccurate. Some will read 6PSI at full boost, and others peg at 10+PSI. If you really want to know how much boost you're making you need to go to a pillar mounted aftermarket gauge.

With my new boost gauge installed, I'm only getting about 11 to 11.5 psi max boost with all my mods on the truck. I got basically everything that's out there on it too!
The stock gauge is accurate up to the 10 psi, but after that its a shot in the dark with out another gauge to help out.

The gauge on my 99 did not move from the bottom when the truck was running, except when getting on the throttle hard. Max indicated boost was 8. This gave a best run of 13.42.
On the 2001, the gauge is off the peg even when idling, and max indicated is 9.5 or so. I will take it to the track soon...

My 2001 gauge is WAY off. I just installed an autometer boost gauge and when it is on 6 psi the factory gauge is around 10. At full boost about 9 psi on the autometer gauge, the factory gauge is past 10. Piece of *****.

Let’s put this into perspective. The boost gauge is just a toy. It does show when boost is being made and when it is not, but that is all. (Remember that the boost bypass valve is open whenever there is manifold vacuum like low power settings.) It’s not like on a turbo car where the boost gauge is providing useful information about the operation of the wastegate. The boost that our L’s make is strictly a resultant of upstream pressure losses (ie maf, k&n filter), blower rotor clearance tolerances, and RPM.
Critical gauges are provided to monitor some function that the driver may use to change a course of action. Our speedometer lets us calculate how high the fine will be when were pulled over. Our tachometer in our automatic transmission’ed truck, that will not change gears when manually commanded, is again just a toy. The oil pressure gauge is just a analog light. Ever wonder why it never moves with RPM? It’s a vital engine function gauge but Ford believes all we really ‘need’ to know is when we don’t have enough, so they made it a gauge that acts like light ….. it’s in the middle when ‘there is enough’. Water temp is critical and it is important that it provides accurate numbers. And finally the fuel gauge, which tells us when to pay up to OPEC for all the fun were having (but why does it take 75 miles to fall off of full?).
Anyway it’s just a toy, so go out and play and see how fast the full gage moves when the boost gauge is at it’s max.

Joel: "Enough" is 4 PSI since '86 or '87 it's been that way.

I have a 99. On my Truck the stock gauge and the Auto Meter gauge seem to be real close except that the the Auto Meter is easier to read. From the other posts and people I have talked to not all are the same.

Maybe it's just me, but with these trucks I think Ford should have included a EKG gauge along with the boost gauge. I own faster cars, and even faster pickups, but nothing feels quite like a turn-key hotrod PICKUP
Maybe they could wire the EKG right into the Assmeter seat option
