Need Help, White Smoke??

Hello everyone, I have come to this site alot but I have never had to ask in questions, but now I have a problem and I'm looking for some advice. Last night I was toying around with another lightning and when I hit somewhere around 100mph my truck cut off but it didn't loose power. I then lokked in the mirror and saw a ton of white smoke pouring out. I drifted to the side of the road and got out. It continued to smoke for about another 5 minutes. I then decided to bump it to see if it would turn over and it did but it would not crank. I then noticed I had oil coming from underneath my truck (about half a court leaked out some where towards the back of my motor). Any ideas of what might have happened would be greatly appreciated.

first thing anyone will say with white smoke is going to be antifreeze mixing where it shouldnt (head gaskets) but you having oil leakin could be more than just head gaskets. you should have a compression test done on it to see, i wouldnt run it hard (tis the season) with the cold weather , but if u do get it running check ur heat and see if u have heat and check ur coolant levels, if you notice them as well being low you could have a head gasket problem or something more...i wish i could help more...i use to see alot of cases with white smoke and low fluid levels being head gaskets when i was workin at the ford dealership...just my 2 cents. sorry to hear about ur truck

I would check to see if you have any holes in the block?? Our stock rod's are notorious for being fragile. Hopefully I'm wrong!!!
Best of luck!!

+1 Oil on the ground does not sound good.
If you didn't ventilate the block it may be hydrolocked. If you don't see any holes in the block remove all of the plugs and see if it will turn over. If it does then you probably blew a head gasket but there is still the question of where the oil came from. Good luck!

Any updates Southcar21 ???

As unfortunately said White smoke IS NOT A GOOD SIGN and usually means water is getting into the heads and blowing out the exhaust. Usually a head gasket or cracked head or yes even a cracked motor, in all cases it's not good and I dont think it's something simple,
But I will hope for the best for you

Please let us know what you find out...

If it is the block it depends on what you want to spend.

If you do need a lower end and you want a built motor that can handle high horsepower and not blow up again then - DMP or JLP for a shortblock. You could use everything you currently have and be up and running with a strong lower end and have the option to increase your power levels later.

If you want to just get it running "like it was again", cheaper than a built shortblock have the shop your taking it to fix it if possible or if they cant fix it have them find a used/new 5.4 block and install it.

I would see what your shop would charge to install a (DMP, JLP, JDM shortblock which ever vendor is closes to ya) and nothing more and get it running like it was to keep cost down and have a strong engine. If you have additional money you could ask them how much to port your heads or you could shop for better flowing heads....but if you change the heads you will need a new tune, headers, and upgraded supporting fuel system (if you dont already have them). Next, upgrade your blower, suspension, trans, traction etc, etc...
