Unhappy For those with new transmissions....

What symptoms did your transmission have that warranted a dealer replacement or at least a teardown in an attempt to fix it? Mine is screwed up and I want to print this thread to present to the dealer when they tell me I'm nuts and that nothing's wrong.

Massive screeching and groaning noises (from the tranny--not me!) Wouldn't go into overdrive. Blinking OD indicator on stalk. Not too hard to diagnose in my case.

First or second time?

First time, second gear was GONE. Would shift from first to drive. Slipped in second, of course.

Second time, 100 miles on new trans. Started shifting hard at low speeds/rpms. After getting warm, overdrive was out and drive slipped very bad. Reverse was gone as well. Would not shift out of second until speed/rpms built up pretty high. Before I got it to the dealer it started making a grinding noise idling and low rpms in 1st, second, and reverse (sounded like the torque converter).

Hope this hepls. I should get my truck back Monday with the third tranny.

Oh, the dealership was told on both occasions (sp?) to NOT touch it. Old one out and new one in.

Angry

gforce,
We are in the same situation i have had a tranny problem for 2 weeks and had to miss the englishtown event and now in danger of missing the byron event because my dealership is rebuilding my tranny at a very slow pace and still has not got it right because it will not go into 2nd or 3rd gear at W.O.T and will not give me a new tranny because the total parts is less than $1400 to fix it.This is B*******,i am really considering getting a 01 because i have a dealer who will give me alot for my 99 so i will wait and see how it shifts whenever they get around to it before i make my decision!

I had my 2000 transmission replaced shortly after taking delivery in March of 2000.

Symptoms included a loud buzzing noise at cruise speeds, and then leaking transmission fluid. Had both the transmission and driveshaft replaced. No problems with those components since though.

I just drove a red '01 on my lunch hour. You '01 guys are lucky!!

Anyway, I can't believe nobody has had shifting quality changes. Mine is silent and still shifts, but not like it did new. That '01 felt like mine did when I got it. It had a nice, firm 1-2 at part throttle like mine used to. Mine is mushy now on the 1-2, but all other gears are fine. I wish I knew what to do here.

Install a shift kit, that'll fix her.
