Any ones brakes sqeak around 5000 miles?
Just got my truck out of winter storage and after about 300 miles my brakes are starting to sqeak. Should i already have to replace brake pads at 500 miles?
Mine squeal and I have over 10,000. This is the second set of pads too.

a brake squeak does not mean u need new pads. a few months ago, i put all new rotors and pads in my car, front and back, original equipment right from the dealer and they are starting to squeak very slightly already. number 1 complaint with brakes is squeaking. i have people everyday come in and ask to have their car looked at cause the brakes squeak. i take it for a test drive and return to put it up on lift and remove all wheels just to see that the pads are all like new and the rotors are glazed and shiny. when i tell them what they will need to do to get rid of the little squeak and what it will cost, they decide to just live with it. the same way the squeak appeared, it may very well disappear. sometimes it is just brake dust too. hope this helps, Mike

Ashenor:
My L acquired the annoying squeal at around 5000 miles. The sound was persistent and at times embarrassing.
To eliminate the noise I tried a technique called "seating the pads". This involves application of the brakes while under power until brake fade begins to occur, then continue driving for a minute to allow the rotors to cool, then repeat sequence two to three times.
It is imperative that this trick is done on a stretch of road or highway where you will not have to stop for lights, traffic, etc. after you have heated up the rotors, or warping of the rotors may occur.
I have almost 23k miles on my L (and the original pads), and have not had the squeal since seating the pads.

WilyWilky, I have the brake squeal too and want to ask you when you seat the pads are you driving a highway speed of 55 or can you do it at 30 or 35. does it really matter how fast you are going. thanks for the tip and info. 95rcobra.
95cobra:
The speed at which you seat the pads is immaterial. You'll have to keep the power on to overcome the braking forces. Brake fade will occur sooner at higher speeds, of course, but we're talking seconds here.
