Post '01 Tail Lenses Theft Problem - FYI

I just heard that a local dealership had the 2001 tail lights stolen from a car on the lot, and had heard of this happening elsewhere.

The thieves opened the tailgate, unscrewed the bolt, pulled out the lens and cut the wires.

The quick way to prevent this is to lock the tailgate, but it's still a datapoint to consider.

Here is a pic of the bolt in question (sorry about the dismal quality, but it was taken in the dark and rain):

Thanks for explaining the procedure for all the potential thieves of the world.

Anyway, just lock your tailgate.

I would rather that people knew to lock their tailgates than have them to go through the hassle of replacing the lights. I was suprised to hear this and never before thought to lock my tailgate (it's a pickup truck after all).

Tailgate locked and in the upright position.

The tailgate can be stolen too, if it's unlocked. I keep mine locked all the time as a matter of habit.

Red face

I keep tools in the back of my truck (as well as cleaning tools!), so I lock my gate and hard cover all the time.

My dad left his truck unlocked in front of our house the other day and someone stole all the change from the ash tray!

Speaking of thieves. Frans, if that's your license plate I'd take it off the sig.
I had my license number in full view on my Cobra's site, and I started to think about it one day.
I had been giving any potential thief the exact location of my car (address) with the display of my licence plate.

So I took it off.
If I were you I'd do the same.
