Post CALLING SPIRO

I wanted to know how well JDM's line peressure modulator valve compare's against a level 10 shift kit. I have the line peressure mod valve. When i called a shop to get it intalled, they told me that he already installed one and that it was a waste of money. Hopy you can help me out.

Save your money and do the Level 10 Kit, nothing else will come close. Just be sure they install the bigger valve not the little one.

casper lightning:
I also have installed JDM's line peressure modulator valve and It does shift good now. I think you need to get your chip reburned for this mod if you haven't yet. Bill

Thanks for the info guys. Do the shifts hit hard that it makes the tires chirp or are the shifts just firm. By the way i got the valve the same time i got the chip. Does that mean that i would have to use the valve?

I also have the Level 10 shift kit in my truck. It performs rather well, and will require to "soften" the firmness on the chip if its too firm for you.

If you have never installed a shift kit in your truck, you would gain shift firmness with a Line-Mod valve at W.O.T. And as 1badtk noted above, the level 10 shift kit's come with 2 Line-Mod valves and work great, the one with the larger plunger (100% valve) is what you want to install.

But as far as comparison, they are the same, I just believe they are made by 2 seperate companies. Hope this helps

Yes, you will have a tire "chirp" with a chip and the shift-kit. If you purchased the chip and Valve from JDM ENGINEERING, they probably have the shift points calibrated for it. The install is not that bad, just requires dropping the pan and having fluid run all over the place

Thanks guys. I think i am going to install the JDM valve. Spiro how easy is it to install the valve. I don't really understand the instructions it came with. Is there a simpler way of explaining it. I would really appreciate it.

casper lightning:
Its pretty easy I just did mine last weekend. First you take the pan down get ready for a mess as there is no drain plug or anything. Next I took down the filter it just pulled out. now you should be able to
see the instructions making sense. I think it was 8mm bolts and 2 10mm nuts to take the body down. Then you pull out the clip and I had to push in on the plunger a couple of times to get it ouT. Replace it with the new ones put back the clip and reverse everything you did. The book says the trany holds 15.9 quarts but remember that the converter is still full as well as fluid in other places. I put to much in and had to drop the pan again to get some back out.I would start with obout 4 quarts and then keep checking the dipstick until it shows. then start the truck , I put it through all of the gears just to make sure everything was full and top off to the cold mark. Some one can correct me if you think I was wrong on anything or left some thing out that was important.. Bill

I am running the level 10 and love it. The install is not hard at all. The instructions will make more sense after you drop the pan. Before you start you may want to pick up the F-250 apn and filter. It's a little deeper and more important it has a drain plug.

Like Bill said, its pretty easy. Just be sure to drop the Accumulator Valve Body, not the main one. The one closest to the front is the one you want to remove, not the larger one.

And like Silver-bolt posted, it would be a wise choice to install a 4x4 pan and matching filter from an E4OD with a drain plug, it only makes the next servicing that much easier. I usually change my tranny fluid every other oil change. I personally have installed a www.performanceautomatic.com TRANNY pan, it comes complete with filter, and offers a capacity of 4qts. more that stock. The pan is cast aluminum, ribbed for cooling, and looks great also.

PSP sells Level 10 (w/o modulator valve/springs only); JDM sells large Level 10 modulator valve w/o springs and adjusts chip for presence of modulator; and Level 10 sells kit with springs and two sizes of modulator valve. All parts made by Level 10. Sure all work well, just differently.

Just bought Performance Automatic pan as well. It comes with new bolts, but no filter is included. List for filter is $45 at dealer and Puralotor is ~$30 at Pep Boys for 1998 listing. Catalog not updated for 99-up yet.

Will need to determine how/where I will secure circular magnet in pan since pan is non-magnetic. Will also be tapping pan for temp gauge.

bobcmt,
What did you pay for your PA pan if you dont mind me asking, Only reason I ask is I was supplied with the pan, extended filter, reusable gasket, and allen bolt hardware for...I think it was around 150 back at the Mod-Shootout last year at Cecil. Did the price go up much?

hdmlnium is the JDM line mod valve the only thing you have done to your tranny? After seeing how your truck shifted this weekend I am very intrested in doing this.

What happened to you on the way out of track on Friday?

My 01 already has neck snapping shifts, would it even be worth my while to invest in a shift kit?
