Question Chip or not to chip, that is the ?

OK i have read many recent posts which support my fear of chipping my L. Magnusson (sp) didnt have in mind computer chips on supercharged motors i dont think. There is absolutely a direct bearing on the engine & trani that if programmed poorly could cause damage to those units. Changing exhaust usually going bigger, chroming an alternator, changing carbs or even distributors doesnt effect motors like a simple chip can today. If there is a question, i have to fight FoMoCo, they have a lot more resources than i do, $$$!

I want to chip my ride, but not if i am risking my drive train warranty in doing so. Thats $5000-$15,000 worth of potential liability on my new truck.

Any thoughts???

I think I'm an exception to the rule but some days I greatly regret getting a chip - like when I read posts about people having to buy new motors, dealing with lawyers, etc...

Other days I'm very happy with my decision to get a chip.

I will say this: my chip did not turn my L into a Viper... as some posts would lead you to believe.

Getting a chip is pretty much a personal decision. It helps if you have a lot of faith in your chip maker. Shop around. Decide for yourself who's chip is the best/safest (yes you can have your cake and eat it too on this one). The only decision I regret about my chip was not getting it sooner. I went from 13.9 stock to 13.2 with a chip and filter. I contribute about .1 of that to the filter.

Check around at different dealerships. Some service departments don't mind the mods. Others will void you for using the wrong washer fluid. Call annomously (sp) to different service depts and see what they say. I do not regret my decision. Made it a different truck. Better!
