Cool MY first time with Nitrous

First off, I would like to say that it was a pleasure meeting so many of you, and I actually had a better time than I expected I would.

MY first time out with nitrous went rather well, and also gained some well needed Nitrous "seat time" that helped me learn how to use a nitrous system, and also loose the fear of that first initial NITROUS hit.

As many know, my truck is not that equipped with many "go-go" parts. My mods are simply JL ram-air, JL Intake-kit, shift kit, Bassani cat-pipes, cat-back, 3.73's, and ET DRAG's. I was running the stock MAF,TB,convertor, heads, blower, motor.
Definetly a huge disadvantage to all the trucks that were running 90 mm MAF, and aftermarket torque convertors at the event. But the show must go on

We were all at a ET loss due to weather conditions. There was a cross-wind that was 30-35 mph, and gusts up to 40-45 at times. And believe me, with a wind this strong, it WILL affect ET in a big way. But the playing field was EVEN for everyone there. From my estimation, I would say that just about everyone was 2-3 tenths off in ET due to the conditions.

B.P. for the day ranged between 30.11 and was dropping during the day to 29.51
Temperature was betwen 53-59 degrees
Humidity started at 70%, but was down to 51% by the end of the day.

------
My first run of the day was made using a PSP race program. The truck responded well, and also a little "loose" on the top-end of the track with those crazy winds.

60' was a 1.85
1/4 mile pass was a 12.78 @104
------
2nd pass, After some needed tire pressure changes, I returned to the line with a PSP Nitrous program for my first test with a 50 shot of my wet sytem. The system is activated by a thumb trigger, I did not feel comfortable working with the W.O.T., and wanted to be able to run the nitrous when I wanted to, in TOP-GEAR for the first time out. The nitrous was activated as soon as I shifted into 3rd gear, and must say IF FELT GREAT!!

60' was a 1.87
1/4 mile pass was a 12.79 @109.40
------
3rd pass, I decided I needed to retry the JDM file that I ran last year to gain those AWESOME 12.30 runs right at the end of the season.

60' was a 1.91
1/4 mile pass was a 12.92 @105.62
------
4th pass of the day I went back the the PSP nitrous program and also went with bigger jets, I installed the 75HP jets as recommened in the kit. This time I out I activated the nitrous once I was in second gear. With a second gear activation, and those cross winds, it produced tire spin on for the ET DRAG's when activated.

60' was a 1.94
1/4 mile pass was a 12.56 @111.80
------
5th pass was also made with the same progamming and jetting as run #4. And I managed a better 60'.

60' was a 1.84
1/4 mile pass was a 12.32 @113.82 Best run of the day, and also quickest
------
6th and final pass was made for the MM&FF issue that will feature the TOP 5 trucks of the day. This pass, was made with overdrive engaging at the top-end, because I forgot to tun it off. Still running the 75 shot.

60' was a 1.92
1/4 mile pass was 12.40 @112.43
------------

Well there you have it, my first time out with nitrous. All runs were made in full trim, minus the hitch and spare and just under a 1/2 tank of 93/100 mix with a total weight of 4820 for the day. With better weather conditions, and less winds, the truck would have easily dipped into the 11's with just these few mods.
I must say, I now am a beleiver in Nitrous. I do not plan on changing convertors or meters or adding any other major (not to mention expensive) mods to this truck. I plan on working with what I have, to achieve the 11 second range WHEN I WANT TO.

I would like to thank Sal from Power Surger Performance with all the help with the nitrous TECH. And also loved his nitrous program very much, ans hope to have more testing with it soon. I would definetly recommend that anyone planning on running NITROUS, be sure to get the correct program form your tuner.

At the end of the day, it was me and Rick from AMAZON Racing with the top ET's, and must say, his truck performed the best out of all trucks equipped with aftermarket torque convertor, and 90 mm MAF and other goodies . Geat Job Rick and Linn. Too bad they kept the right lane closed all day, otherwise it would have been a nice run for us side by side.

Sounds like a very successful day. Fun time, fast trucks, didn't break it or bend it. Too bad the conditions were not better. We need a west coast gathering like this.

Spiro, is that Sals standard 100hp & under program, meaning, is your wet program the same as my dry, or does he have 2 because of your added fuel in the mix. i ran mine last night, to check my new a/f gauge out. and it ran slightly richer with the N2o, than the street program, which was reassuring.
ps: you couldn't go a whole day without increasing the jets? (nobody can)

1badtk,

I would like to thank you for the TECH you and the WYLDMAN gave me to be successful the first time out with the nitrous.

Silver-bolt,
I need a vacation

BBQMAN,
To be honest, I am not sure if its the same program file or not. I never had any detonation with it. Some folks told me they heard me "pinging" down the track, be we found out the end of the day that my CATS are shot again Probably because of the last intercooler leak..again

2nd Bolt,

I should have been running in the 116-118 range, but the wind made sure we all slowed down that day.

Daniel,

What could I say, I like my nitrous system needed to purge today as well, its been very stressful. I took a nice ride down RT.1 here in DE, and became very familiar with the nitrous kick Now I just need to fill that 15lb. bottle again

hdmlnium,

Thank you, it performed rather well that day.11's wold have been there if the wind wasnt so bad, and if I srripped down, but I decided to keep her at full weight.
Come see me and JL run 11's at Cecil, it should be a blast.

MRBBQMAN:
Its a different program, due to the added fuel spray. This is why I like the wet system, you can increase or decrease fuel spray to tune the system for a lean or rich mix.
