Hey Wes-
I have Nitto 305 55's right now. No rubbing EVEN on stop to stop turning in autocrossing...
I would imagine that any interference from the increase of 10mm's above the 305's would be negated by the smaller diameter of the 40's...
There is one or two brands that have the 315, and I think ONE even showed a 9.5 inch rim as acceptable...
Let us know how it turns out...

Whoo-hoo...yes, those are awesome! Can't locate the guy's e-mail address anywhere on that site. I'd like to know what backspacing he used to get the wheels/tires to sit right.

Thanks Blacklight...that saves me some research.
Common practice would be to "split the difference" when going to a wider wheel.
10" rim would then be 6.30" backspacing and an 11.5" rim would then be 7.05" backspacing. However, I believe the 11.5" wheel in the rear with this much backspacing would definitely have interference with the leaf spring, etc. There's plenty of room to have the tire sit "out" from its current position. Maybe only go in .75" or so and the rest of the difference would be made up on the outside.
I wouldn't want to be a guinea-pig, though.
That would be an awfully expensive mistake!
A 295/35-19 front and 345/30-19 rear would be ~1.3" shorter than the stock tire height. Wouldn't look too bad. I will have to check Doug's calculator to see how far the speedo would be off. Also need to check my Fikse supplier to see how much [cha-ching$$] that will cost.

Wes, I've got the phone number of the guy... I'll email it to you tonight.
And as far as the $$$... let's just say you wouldn't get a big group buy going

Just to give you a ballpark figure...
I talked with my Fikse distributor. He can get me a small discount off retail.
These are forged wheels just like the HRE wheels (I mean they are same quality). For 19 x 10 they are $1195 retail PER wheel. For the 19 x 11.5 they are $1295 retail PER wheel.
The tires for those wheels (295/35-19 and 345/30-19) are $360+ each from Tire Rack.
Break out the wallet, boys.

You talking about the FM5's?
Larger version
Larger version
I think 19x10 (6.23" backspace) - extra 0.5" goes inboard and 19x11.5 (6.73 backspace) - extra 1" inboard and 1" outboard would work well.

Yes, I would get the FM5 wheels. I have them on my LX and they look killer.
I am not sure how far in you can put the front wheels, though. Adding one inch to the fronts...maybe .5" in and out would be fine. The tire will be the same width actually (295mm).
The rear is another story. Adding 2.5"...I think you're probably right. It would be best to add most of that to the outside, which would make the tire sit more flush with the outer fender lip. I think this looks good anyway. This is how my Cobra looks with the 315s on the rear of it.
I do know that there is not a lot of room to be had any farther inside. I'd say there's less than 1" b/w the e-brake cable and the stock tire where it sits. Then behind that is the leaf spring. 50mm wider tire with the 345s might get interesting. I wish I could see one up close.

If I did it, I would get some custom wheels. Probably Fikse wheels. I just put some on my '90 LX and they are killer. Not cheap, but nothing is it seems.
They would be 10-10.5" wide.
Tires would be the F1 Supercar tires.

Wes, if your going to spend that much money... another possibility is a 19" wheels.
Front: 19 x 10" with 295/35-19 Michelin Pilots. Rear: 19 x 11.5" with 345/30-19 Michelin Pilots.
