Well Im reading through the post here and the issue that keeps falling in my lap is how the honest 01 owners dont seem to see a big difference in their new lightning compared to the ol lightning 99/00.Could it be that the knowledgable old lightning group was right to begin with........ Could it be true that these trucks are really not that much quicker at all.......Could it be that there will be a 2 tenth max difference like us older guys said.........wow it could be true.? Now dont get me wrong,If I could upgrade quickly with little money I would upgrade too but I wouldnt go around thinkin im gonna wax every 00 i saw before I even knoew what it did at the track.I would just swap cause its new without (we hope) IC problems.And for the 01 owners who still speak of .5 difference or 3-4 tenths break in difference.....You really need to look at Lightning history and not be so optimistic....Finally some post that will get some replys' Take good ol bada$$ to get some of you fired up a bit Weve had non interesing post for the last 6 months,Lets get a little fire under our butts before its not interesting enough and we all fade away... FIRE FIRE FIRE I say a street fight between 01 and 00 owners!!!! Ya ya thats the ticket...

I think maybe I can be some help here. As alot of you know I have a 99 with the PSP full meal deal and a 00 set up the same but also with a SVO throttle body. I traded my 00 in for a 01 and have only driven the new truck for 85 miles.
My initial impression is that the 01 drives about the same as the 00, I felt no improvement in ride from the Bilstein shocks. Maybe it would be different in non normal driving (ie: track). The 01 does have more power then my 00 did when new and not broken in. I installed a Superchip, SVO throttle body, and electric fan yesterday and drove the truck a little. With that installed it is not as fast as my 00 was with the filter, PSP chip, and throttle body. I am just talking about feel here, I did not go out and do any g-tech times and our tracks have not opened yet. I don't doubt that the 01's, when the chip programs get optimized, will be a tenth or two faster than the 99/00's. I believe we really have to wait to see the real difference until we get some miles on these trucks.
I am taking the 01 to Byron Ill. for the shootout on the 8th That will be a good benchmark to start from to compare the trucks.

BTW, I forgot to add that my 99/00 trucks were also equipted with full Bassani exhaust system with headers.

See my driving impressions 01, couldn't agree more. I just thought that I could avoid the IC troubles. And no my 99 was not leaking. The 01 is just to hold me over till the "new and improved" motor comes out, 3 or 4 valve head.
