forgot to mention. my new 2001L is BLACK, yet my clay bar was all RED when i got done. according to zainobros website, this is the number 1 contaminant for NEW paint (and, if the paint has never been clayed, will be imbedded in the clearcoat). hope this helps

Tell ya what: I'm going to give Mister L another sit-down w/ Mister clay bar and see if what we see.

If it's rail dust, I should see less and less as I use the bar.

It was pretty red, though... ~8O-|<

 

THAT'S IT !!! On my 01 the hood and the roof feels a little rough,(not smooth like the rest of the truck).I put a couple coats
of Zaino's Z-5 on it.One more coat and it will be as smooth as the rest of the truck.
I knew it had to be something like rail dust because it was only on the roof and hood. THANK'S

Most of the new trucks and cars that I've seen being transported (including Ford) have a white plastic material over the hood and top. I think the purpose of this material is to protect the top and hood from the rail dust. If that's so, you should not have any rail dust on the top and hood of your new truck.

 

My 98 Explorer Sport had the hood covered
with that white material.All my L had was a
white strip on the bumper.
