I am going to use 5-30 mobil 1 for my first change. I do not think that ford changed anything on the 2001 engine's oil system, or bearing clearance, so I am sticking to 5-30.

I have not picked up my new truck as of yet. When it's time to change the oil in it, I'm sticking with the 5W/20 oil. That's what SVT recommended. I heard that some NAPA stores carry 5W/20 Valvoline. Ford also has the 5W/20 oil. NEO also makes a synthetic 5W/20. Mobil makes the 5W/20 also.

The 5W/20 oil helped to reduce friction and also helped Ford to attain LEV (low emission vehicle) status.

I hopes this helps you. I don't want to get into a warranty pissing match about wrong weight oil should a warranty issue ever arise.

Wal-Mart also carries the Motorcraft 5w-20 oil at about $15/case.

Stick with the recommended oil weight.

When I had my firt oil change, I was told by the head tech (who had HIS Gen 1 Lightning there that same day {runs mid 12's on street tires}) that the 5w-20 was put in there to keep the emissions low, i.e. we have those "ultra low emissions" . He said by my next oil change, he'd put in Mobile 1 synthetic in it. Or some sort of Synthetic. By the way, for my firt oil change, I stuck with the 5w-20, by the next one, I'm switching it.

same here marcus...
i put regular oil in it for the first oil change, then switched to mobil synthetic for the second oil change..

tell them to leave the plug out for a while when you get your oil changed to synthetic.. try to let as much regular oil drip out. thats what i did.. it couldnt hurt.

Be careful, if you put the wrong weight oil in,and that motor goes sour. You could have a battle on your hands with Ford.

Hey FRITZ,
My service manager told me to use 5w-30 until 3000 miles, then would be best time to change to Mobil 1, again 5w-30. Will also change oil at 1000 mile mark.
Good Luck

I called SVT today on the 5w 30w Mobil one issue for the 01. He said there was no warrantee issue at all with the change. He, in fact, thought it was a good idea. He recommended doing the first change on the 01 at about 1200 miles with the standard 5w 20w and then convert to the mobil at about 5000 miles. He said that would give the engine plenty of time to break in.

I'm going with the 5w-20w,that warranty stuff
got me thinking. If you change your own oil like i do, and anything happends to the engine, you would have to show the receipt. The receipt would show the oil weight.
