Post Help with 4:10

I am in the process of installing 4:10's in a 2000 and the pinion shaft shoulder is about 1/4" different from stock. It looks like a problem. What is the solution for this?

Thumbs up

It's NOT a problem. Ran into it on BOTH the 4.10s I had in my L and the 3.73s I just installed.
Ford Parts lists 2-TWO collaspable collars for the pinion shaft. One that actually collapses and one that doesn't and is 1/4" spacer. This is the one you need for the spacer.(it goes on first then the colaspable one.
Hope this helps?

Dan

My wife really hates it when my pinion shaft washer colaspes.

Hey 1redDevil why did you go from the 4:10 to the 3:73. I am going to change gears but can't decide which one to go with.

Question

How do you like the 4.10's? Are you using a chip?

I love the 4:10's. The little lag around town is completely gone and it is very smooth. I am running a Superchip flip chip and I am thinking of running it in tow mode most of the time. In race mode the shifting is pretty aggressive. Speedo is right back where it should be.

droidlight,
The reason I changed the 4.10s out is Two fold:
1. The 4.10s were putting me at 5850 rpms in 3rd gear at the traps in the 1/4. After doing dyno overlays we found the peak torque of my L was at 3900 rpms and the power curve starting to fall off at 4950 rpms. So we lowered the shift points to 5400 (Stock)
We're making nothing but heat from the blower after that, put in 3.73s went through the 1/4 @ 5350 rpms. PERFECT RPMS for the power curve. Picked up 3 more .10s tenths over the 4.10s (3.55s went 4950 rpms in 1/4)
2. 4.10s were a bear to launch with (Track or Street). The 3.73s are much, much, better on the launch. Maybe thats why Ford is using them in the 01s.
