PSP vs. Swanson vs. JL
I have heard nothing but good things about PSP & JL chips but can they make the power that the Swanson chip is claiming? He says 375rwhp with only his chip and a 80mm Pro-M MAF. Is this possible or is he blowing smoke up my a$$. I have an 01 so I am still waiting for the new progams but I am trying to do my homework prior to the purchase for a change. Please give me some advice about what chip to get. Thanks

It seems that every truck and situation is different. In my case PSP out dynoed Swanson by about 16 HP. This was PSP boxed program vs. Swanson custom tuned. Both PSP and Swanson dynoed on Swanson's dyno back to back. More important is the drivabilty. I find that the lastest PSP program to be much better than any of the others I have used. Pulls strong thru all gears. Great kick downs and no ping on CA gas. I have three other chips, but not J.L.
I don't believe it matters physically what kind of chip you have(superchip, swansons, etc.), but the program that's on the chip. Programs are constantly evolving. If you have an outdated version of a program, it's hard to compare with a newer one. I personally have a JL programmed chip because I feel he has put a ton of real world, track tested, development in his chip and I have seen the results.

Next up: Lower Blower pulley, 90mm MAF, slicks.

Weird things happen all the time on dyno's. Listen to what the people running the chips are saying. Check out the track numbers if thats why you want one. I personally would not buy a chip based on one spike on the dyno chart. Look at the whole package. Do you want a chip for the track only with race fuel or one you can drive every day or both. I am very happy with my choice.

flash...Your on the right track. Take your time and watch the board for track times on the new chips. Try not to be the guinea pig unless ya got lots of money to blow. Some guys here have 4 or 5 different chips. Only one fits in the truck at a time. I watched for about 7mos. before I made my choice, and have no regrets. Went with JDM.

I have an '01 and went with the the JDM as did KGM. I hopefully will have the chip soon. JDM wanted street and dyno time before releasing a product. JDM was also offered a calibration to compensate for a crankcase breather. Check their site out for more info.
This is what I decided to try first. I think PSP and JL offer great product from what I've heard. Wouldn't it be cool to see a head-to-head comparison that used a dyno, track and strip for eval. I'm guessing these guys are all in the same ballpark so it becomes a matter of your personal application/needs.

Flash01, I have that exact combo on my 00' L. I have a Pro-M 80mm mass air with the open element air cleaner, and a Custom Swanson Chip. Back in February, we made 10 dyno runs on Danny Swanson's Dyno. My truck made most of the runs between 372 and 377 RWHP. These are SAE corrected numbers by the way. I have the dyno sheets available if necessary.
Trucks vary, and mine responded well to the mods that I made. When Danny dyno'd my truck, he used a wide range 02 meter to monitor the Fuel/air ratio in real time. I assume, that this allows him to tune the ratios very closely, without going too lean.
I haven't tried any other chips, as I am satisfied with the work that he has done for me. That doesn't mean that the other chips aren't going to produce as much power, I just means mine worked with this combo.
I'm going to test the truck this Friday at La County Raceway, with a couple of other Lightning owners. At least one of them is a 01'. I'm hoping that I can runas well as the new trucks, with their increased Hp.
I'll keep you posted with the results.
I'd also like to mention, that the Dyno runs that I made, were in very good conditions. It was a 60 degree day, with the humidity at about 40%.
