Post Drive shaft bolts?

I am trying to remove my drive shaft and can't get the bolts to move. What is the best way to get the bolts off? I know I need a 12 mm 12 point wrench or socket.

Thanks

John

Cool

Leverage. I had the rear wheels off the groung when I removed mine. I put the transmission in neutral and rotated the rear wheels until the bolts were in the best position, put the transmission back in park and then used a cheater bar to break them loose. I had to repeat the process a couple of times. I know it's a lot of hassle, but I still have all the skin on my knuckles.

either a 3/8" torque wrench or put on some gloves, get underneath the yoke and benchpress the driver's side lose then pull the passenger side lose.

I simply used a box wrench for the bolts, but also used an additional open-end wrench interlocked together for furhter leverage. Came off quite easy to be honest Hope this helps

I just bought a 12 point 1/2 drive 12mm socket. I think it will work better then the little wrench I was using last night. My torque wrench will have to be my arm. When I arm can't turn the bolt any more then the bolt is tight!

I don't think you can get a 1/2" drive socket in there. 3/8" with a breaker will fit as well as a box. I also used Loctite on the bolts.

I agree with Bolt, can't get a 1/2" ratchet in there.

I just finihed up the install of the drive shaft. I was able to get the 1/2 drive on the bolt using a 2-3 inch extention. I did not have to move the truck at all. I was able to get at all 4 bolts from one position. The hardest part was getting the old drive shaft to budge once the bolts were out. I had a little trouble getting the bolts back in and tight with 1/2 drive because of the huge drive shaft.

I did the same as JOHN893. I bought a 12mm 12pt., 1/2 drive socket. When I reinstalled the bolts, I used blue loctite and torqued them to 83 ft lbs. This is what the Ford service manual recommends.
