head problems?
head problems?
I just bought my 02 L. so im kinda new to this! Someone told me that their was a head problem for the pre 03 L. and something about few thread on the heads for the spark plugs. Can someone explain that for me please. I just want to know if their is any problems with the 02 L that i should fix!!!!!! THANKS
The 02 and under heads have less threads for the spark plugs, i.e. it takes less turns to tighten. Its not a problem untill it launches a plug. It happens to some people, and not to others. Best advice I can give you is make sure all your plugs are snug, and check them from time to time.
Part of the problem is that ford uses trained monkeys to install the plugs at the factory so some are installed way to tight and dammage the threads and some are way to loose so they work their way out and take the last 2 threads with them when they blast off. I think I even found a bananna peel under the COP on my wifes mustang, J/K. But seriously I actually found a bunch of those silicone caps all over the engine compartment and one was even dropped into the spark plug hole, took me 20 minutes to figure out why I couldn't get the plug socket to fit on that plug. When I changed my plugs in my 00L at 18K miles some were way too tight and others were really loose. If I would have waited another 18K I would have ejected one for sure. I would recommend to check or change your plugs ASAP and use copper antisieze when you reinstall your plugs and COP screws and dielectric grease on all the electrical contacts. Torque plugs to 13 ft lbs.
