Missing in 3rd gear?
Went to the track on Saturday. On the first run, the truck started sputtering and missing at the top of 2nd gear and continued all the way through third. I mixed 110 octane race fuel. I have a JL Chip and Ram Air. Any suggestions on the miss?

Yup, the fuel! Bear in mind i dont do this, but have read a lot on here and the NLOC board. It seems our trucks do best at 93-94 octane despite the notion more octane means more power. I can't expalin the details, but beyond those #'s increases in octane decrease power, with our set-ups. Now i do understand other mods can be done to allow for more octane, but normally you dont want that race fuel. others will add i'm sure. I dont have your chip so this is strickly based or my perception of past posts i've read. Good Hunting

I haven't checked the plugs. I need to, but I dread digging them out!! Reddawgy's reply sounds pretty logical. I mixed 3 gallons of 110 octane with the 1/4 tank I already had. I will try to run this tank out and see what happens! Thanks for your help!!

Your engine is configured to run 87 octane from the factory, but the dealer can recalibrate it for 93 (or any octane you want), but have them set it at what you use, not some ridculous setting, unless you're gonna start buying your gas at the airport.
Octane is better if higher for the most part, true, but only if the engine is calibrated for it. You're wasting money putting higher octane in most engines, (unless you get a PING), and setting your PCM for higher octane than what you actually run EVERY TANKFUL is the same as putting cheap gas in every tank when it call for Premium only.
The reason Ford calibrates them for 87 at the factory is becasue they know that some people will spend $32K for a truck, and try to cheap out $3 a tank on the gas, so better gas than what it's set up for does less damage than cheaper gas than what it's sert for (which is also why you don't want the dealer to set your octane for 110 or something like)
Hope this helps,
G

I did the same thing. Put 110 in when stock and even after chip (before it was reprogramed) and lost performance. Didn't get a miss but times were down. Did the miss continue after the run. Does it do it at everyday driving? If so you may have a fouled plug. Also the fuel I have been getting at the track lately (104 since chip is programmed for it) has been real dirty. I have been getting check engine light and a real bad bogg at the track. Have changed the fuel filter 2 times in the past week and both times could not blow through it it was completely plugged. Just a thought.
