Question Rattle at 2500 RPM when cold. Anyone know what this is?

My 2000 L has developed a rattle from about 2000 to 3000 RPM range. It only does it when the engine is cold. I'm not talking snow and ice cold, I live in California. It sounds the worst at 2500 RPM. This is not pinging or detonation. It sounds like it's comming from the drivers side of the engine, maybe low, like around the first CAT?

Maybe some kind of air valve opening up? Maybe pellets in the CATS? Has anyone had this problem and had it resolved?

This rattle has really been bugging me.

modd69: Does this sound like your problem also?

I have had both the muffler replaced and a Cat replaced because of rattles. Look there first.

If your rattle is like mine it will change with time and get more prevalent slowly.

There are a number of old posts about Exhaust Rattles....

I have what sounds like a exhaust rattle but it only happens upon deceleration coming to a stop. Starts about 6-700 rpm.

Thumbs down

I Have around 9000 miles on my truck. The rattle only started about 2000 miles ago. Up till then there was NO rattle. It started in one day and hasn't gone away yet.

If you're hearing it under medium acceleration, then I think you guys are chasing a ghost not worth worrying about. My truck makes the same noise, usually when it's cold, and it sounds just like someone let a bag of marbles loose in the intake. My '95 R-model Cobra does the same exact thing, as do all R-models, and when they were new it was explained simply as some sort of "air-cavitating" condition inside the intake manifold. Since the noise is EXACTLY the same, coming under the same conditions in my L, I figure it's nothing to worry over.
