Exclamation Attention 2000 L owners with squeeky brakes!!

I would like to know how many of the 2000 L'S on this board have squeeky brakes? Is it the front or rear?Have you had it from the day you picked it up? Do they squeal when you apply light or hard pressure? The reason I am asking is I am in the process of setting up a meeting with engineers from Ford. They called me after I posted a message on this board about this. They are going to try diffrent wheels and brake pads to see if the squeal can be stopped. If we can find out the cause they can fix evertbodys squeal... I hope!! Will keep everybody posted on what happens when they come and test on my L.

Mine used to squeal under light pressure. I even followed the proper break in procedure as laid out in the Ford manual. I complained to the dealer I bought it from. They did some kind of "glazing" process that didn't get rid of the squeal, but did create copious amounts of dust in no time! I complained a little more (ok I confess I sic'ed my wife on em), at which point I got new pads. Those have been a lot less noisy.

My "00 L front brakes do squeel under light pressure. Although not all the time, about 40%. Thanks for any help.

Yup, mine do! Sounds like the front. It started about a month or two after I bought it. Sometimes you can take your foot off the pedal and then reapply pressure and the squeek will stop. Sometimes it doesn't stop. Sometimes you don't hear a squeek at all. Lately though it is squeeking more often than not.

Ford must have a very short memory or 'teenagers' for engineers - this same problem was found with passcar brakes about 15 years ago - rotor/pad composition was the culprit!
This will probably turn out to be the same thing. I'm sure that some L owners have already changed pads and rotors from the aftermarket arena (Drilled or slotted/kevlar pads?) - I'd like to hear who did what and what were the results (noise/stopping power). The engineers should listen and take notes - not have 'sleep' meetings to resolve concerns. The real 'engineers' are on this site! Oh yeah - the rear brakes are the ones that squeal!
