Question 454 SS w/blower

I was getting my truck washed yesterday when I happened to notice (heard it coming...) a white 454 SS pull up and the owner go inside to get an employee, I guess for a quote on a detail job. They came back out, look around the truck, then the guy pops the hood. Whoah, he's got a huge chromed blower on the thing! Before I could walk over and ask him about it, he left.

I wonder what you guys know about the HP/track numbers those trucks have stock, and maybe with a 10-15psi blower.
Just speculation I know, but I'm curious...

They seem to need more than a non-intercooled blower to keep up with a L. Almost all the owners are talking of adding more power...

Blacklight,

That first 454 link belongs to Mike Philips the creator of 454ss.com. I've seen his 454 in the parking lot and to hear him tell it's 1/8 mile story, it's really quick. In a street race with 350 RWHP, geared at 90mph, and about 5 years of R&D hooking up, I wouldn't say 'They need more HP to keep up with an L' in a normal street race. He has a 454 portfolio of some 454's pulling 1-2 foot wheelies, this isn't intentional BTW.

There's one exceptional 454 guy that I don't care what you show up with, it's going to be close.

Do what you want but I've learned the hard way to keep my bravado down when it comes to G1's, 454ss, typhons, GN's, and older ~85 mustangs.

Sooner or later the G2's will get their day in the sun.

Sounds like there are a few 454's out there with some radical work done to them, but (just my $.02) one lightly modded is not going to be competitive with a second gen L lightly modded. Be interesting see our gen 2's performance in 2-3 years as the aftermarket grows.

lgogether,

I agree, I'm a bit cautious myself when it comes to the 'performance' vehicles. There are a few sleepers out there lurking

I am aware of the potential a 454 engine has, and even worse, some people are running bigger than that. My point was, they seemed to realise that a 454, stock or close to, will not cut it even against a L1. And like all rational motorheads, they went for the Tim Allen solution.

So beware, if he is willing to run you, he probably knows what he is doing...
