Post Getting ready to sell--->>>>

What do you think a 25K mile 99 is worth? 20,21? Its flawless and I don't think I want to trade it in since I already negotiated the dealer down on a 2001. Thanks all....

I always sell my vehicles my self. the dealer does not give you squat for a trade in.These are rare trucks you should have no trouble selling if it is in mint shape. Bob.

SVTBob,

Rare trucks ? Not where I live. I see them ALL the time. Everyone seems to have one. There are SIX G2s, and 4G1s listed in the current Truck Trader here, and it is a LOCAL magazine. A couple of them have been there for a while, overpriced at $28,0000 (G2) give or take. The only realistic seller has his mint condition one for 25,000 OBO.

I doubt these trucks will ever be "rare" Some reguard the 84 - 86 SVO as rare, however you can locate a mint condition one in just minutes on the web, and there are usually always one or two in Hemmings.

Definition of the word "Rare" - (Seldom occuring or found.)

Lightfootning,

Using your definition of "seldom occuring or found" as being "RARE", I was just wondering what the population of Lightnings for sale in your area are to other F-150s of the same year???

If 4000 trucks are lightnings out of the best selling truck in the world, 1+Million, I would say the Lightnings are relatively scarce and rare.

My $.02

Not to mention anything can be found on the internet. If they aren't rare today they will be a few years from now when alot more of them are totalled out or stolen and parted out.

My SVT dealer just took in a '99 with 2500 miles for around 23,500, very clean obviousy. I'd say 20 on trade, but 21 if you sell. IMHO Wholesaling '00's for 26 with 4k or less miles, retailing around 27-28, or were.

Actually, this "rare" subject was the main reason behind my purchase of a Lightning. I figured by the time I turn 50, (32 years from now), the Lightnings WILL be a hard find. I plan on keeping it till then, keeping it as a family airloom.

Thanks for the info Reddawgy. There are not too many Lightning's running around here especially when comparing to regular F series trucks

Well I guess it might be good for those of you that think you got a rare truck to keep on thinking that way. That way for sure you will be able to find a mint condition one in 20 years without a problem. It will have belonged to the guy who thought they were rare and built a shrine around it in his garage. Or .... a shrine on the front lawn ?

I do wonder what we will be driving 20 years from now? I doubt it will be dinosoar powered. I am thinking "Fuel cell" technology

For now I think I will just keep driving mine and having fun. If in 20 years I want one for a family heirloom, I will just buy one from somebody who spent more time worshiping and storing his truck for the last 20 years, instead of driving the snot out of it like they should have back in it's heyday

Jeffslightning -- your comment about trading it in; if you have negotiated a fixed price for your purchase and have it signed by the finance guy, you are in a great position to negotiate. You just eliminated one critical variable for the dealer to play with, so you can now negotiate a decent trade-in value based on blue book trade-in values. :-)

Lightfooting; Rare is fairly appropriate when it means "seldom occurring or found". The L is a very limited production vehicle as compared to other mass produced vehicles. On top of that, it caters to a very narrow niche which makes it even more special.

I have only seen one L on the road this year, so from my perspective it is a seldom occurrence.

What do you drive?

Frans,

I drive a lightning, just like everyone else in the Portland Metro Area. Sarcasm aside, there are ALOT of these down here.

Next time a waiter asks me how I like my steak , I'll tell him "Seldom occurring or found!"

I consider the L to be rare. In a town of 300,000, there's only 3 that I have seen. 1 '99 black and 2 '00's (red and black). Haven't seen any '01's, although I was talking to a 17 year kid that said his dad was buying him one for graduation. All I can say is it's a good thing I didn't have a car with the performance of the L when I was young, otherwise I wouldn't be here. It was hard enough staying alive driving my '57 Plymouth Fury hardtop (2- 4bbls, 318 and torqueflight).
