99/00 vs 01 CIVIL WAR
seems like there is some bickering going on over the possible performance gains of the 2001 L over the 99/00 Ls. I think its only because there is no other current competition it has resorted to this!
anyway, one would THINK with the 20 extra hp, the extra torque, and the steeper gears, a broken in 2001 L might be .1-.2 quicker than the 99/00 models, but again, maybe not.
anyway i think its fun that you all can debate now, maybe you should set up a civil war at a local track and run the 99/00s vs some 01s with similar mods.
will someone with a stock 2001 post a timeslip (from a few passes at sea level in cool temperatures) so we can see whats up?

Somebody already posted a time slip except it was 13.9+low 14s which I know isnt great and they will be running a little lower than 00s.The problem is simple.(Some) people who have just bought 01s are thinkin 20 hp is gonna gat them low 13s stock and mid 12s with a chip/filter which is just untrue. They are unfamiliar with lightnings and /or racing at the track.
AINT IT COOL.....................

My Cobra will be finally finished with its 15 month rebuild in a couple of weeks and we will be dyno tuning it when it's completed.
At that time I should have 1000+ on my 2001 L and hopefully a chip, filter and synthetics.
So I will dyno the L at the same time to find out the hp of (MY) L, cause I wanna know.
As far as a 1/4, when the track opens later this month and the weather gets a little drier I will take the L and the Cobra to the track.
I'll post actual times slips when we go, but it won't be for another month or two.
As far as 99-2000 verses 2001's, I think all that is regodamnediculus.
Our trucks are all very much the same thing.
when the heads go to a 3 valve in 2003, then we will have some comparisons to look at.

If this helps.....A local dealer has a leftover 00 and 2 new '01s. Drove them both BACK TO BACK, same day, both new............
Assometer sayes '01 rev's alittle quicker. If someone else drove and I didnt know which one I was in I "probably" could tell them apart. There is a difference, albeit a small one. Just my opinion.

Give me about one more weekend. Maybe two.
You see, one of my good friends cousin just got his 01 Lightning up here, and it had around 300 miles on it last tuesday.
Everyone here knows very well that I have a video camera.
This will be the very best of 'comparisons' since his truck is also black. I have also re-installed my muffler.
My bone stock absolutely_no_mods 99 Black Lightning VS. his bone stock absolutely_no_mods 01 Black Lightning.
It should have near 1000 miles, so it wont be quite broken in yet. We will have our fun, however, and he will be taking it to our track once it opens May 13th, but I am sure there will be a heads mentioned here up before then.
Its funny how he decided to get one. He had a full size (excuse my language) dodge pickup and was planning on gettting a paxton for it to take care of the Lightnings. All this before he went for a ride. I showed up at a party, and he wanted to go for a ride. Well, we did, and he got lucky, I only engage in WOT when there is competition. BMW M3 pulled up, and thats all it took for him to see the light. Just one ride, 2 miles long.

some of you newbees don't know how the war works around here. it has always been a war of colors, not years or mods, since most of us can trade in or update, the only thing that remains constant, is our choice of colors. it began with the 99 black being the king of the hill in both choice and speed, the lowly red 99 were starting to catch up in mods and numbers, the black L owners resented this because, they could. the white 99 L owners were left alone, because there were so few that nobody cared. the 2000 owners came on the scene, and the silvers surfaced, and had to compete with the reds for 2nd spot. whites were still ignored. now, in a complete breach of etiquette, the 2001 owners of all colors, think they can band together and upset a predjudice that has taken some 2 years to instill in the minds of all who read this list. this coup of sorts, will not go unnoticed, and i am calling for all 99-00 owners to cease with the secret L-wave to 01 owners, and to seriously consider displaying my new Calvin sticker, showing him hoseing down an 01. i feel like a Civil War historian,or something
LMAO !! I got a new BBQ for my BD and most people can't even talk to me anymore.

I ran an 01 lately against my chipped and filtered 99. My 99 seems to be a little weaker than some, pulling 313 HP on the dyno with a filter and headers (no chip). Add in the chip and you get 357 rwhp.
I had little trouble pulling the 01 up to about 80 mph. Running from 80, the 01 got up and just walked away (stock 01, chippenfiltered 99) I think the MAF allows them to breathe much better at the top end and the gears keep them in the RPM band longer. In a couple months the 01s should easily beat the 99-00s stock for stock.

I think MRBBQMAN's license plate should read the FAR SIDE. LOL
As for the 01's,I think the 3.73 gears are just going to make the truck harder to 60'. I put 4.10 gears in mine, and didn't see anything in the ET. It just made it harder to launch on stock tires.
The 01's have a new lower intake manifold and intercooler with slightly more area, that is rumored to be worth 22 to 23 more HP and the 90mm MAF is capable of about 10 to 14 more HP. But as long as it is breathing through that horible air box/air filter it probably won't run any better than a 99/00.
The 01' has more potential, but it will take a good chipnfilter to release it.

The gears alone should net at least a 0.2 second improvement, they are much better suited to the power curve. The 90 mm MAF and larger fender intake should be good for at least another 0.1 - 0.2 sec. And who knows what the real h.p. figures are? Ford was very conservative rating the 00s, and probably likewise on the 01s. Ford claims a 0.6 sec. improvement on the 01s, and I suspect that is not very far off. And people talk about 1/4 mile times as though they were some kind of absolutes, whereas in real life they are all over the map, depending on track elevation, wind and barometric conditions, traction, driver skill, etc. etc. The same truck might do 14.5 at one track one day and 13.5 at a different track on another day. The only way to know the real difference between the 99/00s and the 01s would be to run several stock examples of each at the same strip at the same time. And we all know how many people keep their trucks bone stock before they go to the track. Until there is a controlled comparison, though, its all speculation.
