Post 00L - Engine getting replaced. Have more questions.

I know I have gone into this a bit before but wanted to hear from others.

I am getting my 2000L engine replaced due to the rattling problems experienced at 3500rpms before shifts. Anyway my questions are this: Has anyone had their engine replaced lately? I am wondering if they replace with a 2001 engine with new blower, intercooler, etc... I have heard on this board that they only replace the long block. The dealer is telling me they are replacing everything, intercooler, blower and all. Does anyone have any insight? If they put the 2001 computer in this truck will this cause any problems since I have 3.55 gears and the 01 computer is programmed for 3.73 gears? HELP!

Thanks!
Sam

Hey Sam,
Sorry to hear about the L
I had mine replaced at 12,500 miles.
I got the 01' motor installed. The motor and intercooler are the only things that will change over. The wiring(connectors) and hoses will not fit on the 01' blower. If your tech does not know this he will soon find out.
Oh and by the way I just had my intercooler changed again You guessed it leaking. So if you think you'll get away from the i.c. leaks, Sorry....
Hope this helps

I doubt you'd have any problems with the gearing being any different. After all, the computer is done with it by the time power hits the gears.

SCC2000L What did the dealer say was causing the rattle at 3500. I have just got the rattle and thought it was from bad gas. Needless to say it didn't go away with octane booster. Did you happen to have your intercooler go bad? Scott

Well thats not good to hear on the intercooler part. I was hoping to get the new setup so that I wouldnt have to run into this problem again. My L has been in the shop for a month solid now and I am really starting to get pissed off. I think I am going to call the SVT hotline today or tomorrow and let someone have it.

To answer your question, I have 5500 miles on it and the intercooler has not started leaking yet so thats not it. It has made that rattling noise since new but I didnt notice it right off but it has always been there.

This is turning into a disappointing ordeal. Not to mention that this is also the 4th time it has been in for the clunk fix. Which is no longer a clunk but a steering pop now. I am starting to hate this truck but it sure is fast

SCC2000L,
You will not get the new 2001 PCM when you get your engine changed. The calibrations are different. That is why it is not good to buy a 2001 Ford 90MAF and put it on a 99-00.

Aftermarket meters are OK! For the intercooler fix. They are only going to change the lower intake and supercharger. Not much hp gain! Some!

Sorry to hear about the engine! It shouldn't happen to an L owner!

Is it not good to put an 01 ford 90mm on a 99-00 with a chip?
