Red face Magnaflow Representative Speaks

Called the online number today and punched in the 4500 ext. code. Jason answered. I explained the 3/10 loss on a G-tech and he said he was not at all surprised. I asked if they had any dyno runs on this muffler and the Lightning. He said No. All they have tested is the single in and out systems. Am I wrong or aren't they selling these mufflers as a performance piece/enhancement. I guess I could be wrong. I have before. Seems just a modicum of tone is all anyone is suposed to expect from a Magnaflow product for the L. After spending $175.00 on this lump, installed, I should be horse whipped for not opting for the ole muffler delete option right off. I surmise if you lose a muffler to rust or rot maybe a Magnaflow wouldn't be so bad. I don't mean to be nasty but seems they already know it ain't gonna help. Sal may have said it best. The factory muffler sounds wimpy but it better than aftermarket when it comes to performance. By theyway I also lost 1/2 # of boost with this 12468 Magnaflow.

Cool

Muffler replacements add nothing. I think that horse has been beat to death, but .3 seconds loss in the quarter is a bit much for me to believe. Oh well, at least I'll have the satisfaction of listening to my great sounding magnaflow as some "wimpy" sounding Lightning leaves me in the dust.

Check you intercooler or something. Mine ran a tick quicker at the track and I lost no boost. I running the 12568 but it's hard to believe it would be that kind of difference between these two mufflers. Gforce measured about an 8 HP gain on his g-tech with the 12568. Maybe they put a bottle neck in one of your bends or something. You seem to be the only one having this problem.

Like I posted last night, the exhaust is a part of the entire package. While you may be correct in that all Magnaflow customers might of lost HP at some place in the power band.

I still feel that the 12568 is only a part of the entire package, and everyone could have a different mod package.

We can debate this till the end of time, but until we each know a standard base line (temp, alt, hum, BP) and what mods we all have, then compare to each other how can we say what really works and what doesn't. Can you imagine me stating that Sals Chip only makes 10 HP only to find out later that I’m still running a stock air box @ 115 degrees?

All I can say is that I feel my L is very sensitive to air temperatures. I got my L back when the air was hotter than when I delivered the truck and it drives like the air temperature is 30 degrees colder than normal. Abet this is only really noticeable in the mid range.

Go figure.

Yep, I sure did, and my backside felt it too, although just slightly. But, it's just a muffler. I had DynoMax Bullet race mufflers on before this. These are straight through and it was LOUD when they burned in after a few days. I couldn't stand driving the L more than about 10 miles because my ears would ring from the interior resonance.

I think the L as it sits from the factory is a very nice piece of work, including the exhaust system. All of us are doing different things to get reduced ET's. I believe installed mods greatly affect how new, different mods perform, along with your altitude and temperature, and on, and on and on.

Chuck and I have basically the same mods. And we're blessed with good gasoline. And our altitude is probably within a hundred feet. We both run the 12568 and it performs well. I am most impressed with the bottom and mid range torque the muffler has provided with my mods. High end hp is negligible, but there nontheless. I went for sound and I got it. And it didn't hurt me in the performance dept.

I drive my truck everyday except for when the roads are wet. This muffler on my truck is about like the FRPP T/B - no big hp gains, but increased fun factor. That's what I wanted, and that's what I got, because it sounds a hell of alot better than the stock muffler and is slightly stronger. Maybe it's the 12468 that causes problems because of its small size, as the 12568 is nearly identical to stock in it's dimensions. I dunno.

So the 12568 is almost a drop in replacement for the stock Lightning muffler? Might I ask why you didn't go with the stainless version? That is the one I'd go with on my HD. I understand the HD is supposed to have the same exhaust as the Lightning which is apparently a dual in / dual out. I haven't actually seen one yet.
