I want to install a Alpine Double Din in my 2001L. I know a piece has to be removed from the back of the dash so the radio can fit. Can anyone who has done this give me any tips, or even if this is not a good idea.

 

Are the 2001 different than the '99-00? If so there aren't too many people w/2001, and of those I dont know how many have ripped out their stereo yet.

If the stereo is the same as '99-00... do a search on stereo installs... there are a lot of posts.

I stuck 2 infinity 5x7's in the front doors..left the factory rears and placed a 10" RS amped Bazooka tube behind the seat. I was suprised at the quality of the sound. The factory head puts out very good sound with this combination. I have components for the front I had in the 99. So I have some experience with the stock and aftermarket speakers. I used the factory head in the 99 as well. I have no complaints. I am some what of an audiophine and have been for a god 30 years. If you upgrade on a budget I would keep the factory head.

I have a Alpine double din stereo that was installed at a local stereo shop. I've had no problems with it at all. It's a very good idea.
