Question Spare tire & jack removal on drag radials???

Did the search, typical responses. 50lbs (weight of spare) = 1/2 tenth. We all know that as a generality.

Anybody do just the spare tire and jack removal at the track, back-to-back?

Since I'm running Mickey Thompson drag radials, I figure I shouldn't lose traction from the reduced weight over the rear?

There's this guy at work with a BMW 335i with some computer upgrade to 325 HP, and I already kicked his a$$ in 1/8th mile, but he is confident with his newer upgrade to 375 HP he will get me in the 1/4 mile. I am thinking of unloading the spare tire and jack for some added oomph.

As long as I can get him out on a 50 degree (or so) night, I should be able to kick his a$$ regardless of what he does (me on drag radials).

Remove the front bumper and side mirrors also. Seriously, be careful what you take off in the back, you may end up with traction problems that you did not have before.

Since you won't have a spare or jack u might as well remove the spare tire jack rod?!?! How often u use that windshield washer fluid? I'M GUESSING NOT THAT OFTEN! YANK IT OUT! :-)
hehe. It doesn't sound like u would have a problem anyway. Take out the beamer!

With the mods in your sig, I think you'll have no problem. But I am all for weight reduction.

Hell why not just remove the bed, fenders and hood too.
Sorry the way some people pull stuff off these trucks to go racing just makes me laugh.

Blown,
You won't have a traction problem. Be sure to heat the hell out of the drag radials though. I am curious to see what the BMW ends up running. Is he a auto or manual? I he hooks hard there is a good chance he may leave some broken parts on the track. Half shafts are the weak link.

I kicked his rear, but as extra insurance I put a shot of nitrous. I REFUSE TO LOSE! With no traction out of the hole I was running 12.4's at 112. He ran 12.97 @ 111MPH.

Cool. Still not a bad time for the BMW. Was he on street tires?

Cool

HI!... Every little bit helps. My F-150 went from 4600LBS to 3900LBS in weight reduction. You can use lighter wheels, tires, seats etc. Now I'm back halfing the truck and going to a MUSTANG II style custom front suspension. Hoping to get it down to 3400LBS with driver. We'll have to "weight" and see..........
