Cool

Chip (PSP 4-way in my case), cone filter in place of the stock airbox, possibly an oval throttle body and that would put you pretty close to the number you're looking for.

The grin factor is awesome on these trucks stock! W/a little help from the wallet it only gets bigger!

Your talking about adding over 100 H.P. That sounds like a job for NITROUSMAN!Even with ported heads, cams, intake porting, chip, filter etc..your going to fall a little short without some juice.Big question is how fast do you want to go?

If your looking for more than 400RWHP, then your looking for big, big $$$$$$$$$.

It was reported very early on this board that some guy in CA. was dropping a 150# NOS shot down the drag strip and his Lightning went one way and his bottom end went another. I remember after this report someone else reported that they had ties to Ford and the bottom end was rated at about 500 crank HP.

Here's the math 500 crank HP -20% for the trans = 400RWHP, you'll see this number mention here in the forum as 'the magical number'.

If you want to upgrade the crank, rods, and maybe pistons, block, drive train ect... then you might as well spend 50% more $$$ and make 700RWHP.

BTW a chip/filter/TB will only get you about 25-30RWHP so whoever posted you'll get 450RWHP was just fooling with ya, more like 350-380RWHP depending on your year.

Another thing to remember is I only make 368 RWHP and I'm on my 3RD complete transmission, 2nd complete rear end, and 2nd right rear axle, don't get me started on the brakes.

Most won't agree with me here but the truck for all purposes is maxed from the factory, yes we all can get 10%-20% here and there but the faster I go the more unrelated stuff breaks on mine, windows, brakes, intercoolers, ect...

Still love it thou.

Igogether, what is your problem man? Are you ever happy? Do happy, encouranging words ever pour forth from your face? Guess I would just like to know, since I have yet to see any happiness from you. This situation must make for a very sad existance.

Hmmmm, maybe you just need to get laid.

Just out of curiosity, what have you done to your truck to break so many parts? After reading all the Lightning boards, I just do not normally see that kind of carnage. Actually, I have seen very little carnage period. You must be really special, in the carnage department. Congratulations on your accomplishments.

Of course this is just my opinion, I may be wrong.

400 rwhp should be easy for an '01 with basic bolt ons, but 450 would be a tall order. My '00 is making around 360 rwhp with just a chip 'n filter, but some of the stronger trucks are making over 370 with the same mods. Add a pulley and TB and it should be possible to do over 390 on an '00, and 400+ on an '01. Btw, drive train loss on a Lightning is the lowest Ford has ever measured, a lot less than 20%. So add a 100 hp shot and you should be able to make close to 500 hp on an '01.

Where is everyone getting this info that Lightnings loose less than 20% at the rear wheels? Never heard of any automatic loosing less than 19-20%.Even an all out Lenco racing trans that we ran on a pro-stck stang in 89 never lost less than 16 h.p. after a 5 speed swap. And That engine produced close to 480 at the rear wheels.

99DECH, I think you will find that most of the heavy hitters haven't dynoed their Ls after the first few mods, or if they have, they haven't announced the results. The general feeling is that the track is a better barometer of total performance than a dynometer. Almost all Ls with a chipnfilter will be around 360-380 rwhp. A TB is good for another 5-10, headers 0-10. I haven't seen the results before/after for a lower pulley, but they boost the power curve accross a wide rpm range.
The largest difference you'll find between the L's hp vs the Mustang is the powerband hits much lower in the L, and continues all the way to redline. Although you may see 450+ hp engines in Mustangs, the area under the hp curve isn't nearly as large. 400rwhp in the L is very effective and will get you into the 12s. Many people have reached 12s or very low 13s with little investment or broken parts. The ones that are pushing for the 11s are improving their powertrain (traction devices and torque converters) more so than making a lot more hp. I'm pretty sure that there are at least 4-5 Ls that are 450-500hp, but those numbers were calculated by software based on ETs, not a dyno.

Post 01 Lightning, BoltOns, RWHP

hey guys, im currently having a major struggle within myself as to what vehicle to purchase.

Was on the 00-01 Cobra Waiting list for over a year then finally gave up. Traded in my modded 99GT and had all plans basically sealed to get a 01 mustang GT, put a novi 2000 blower on it, mass air, full exhaust etc.
However I've been getting the Lightning bug lately.

How easy is it to get in the neighbourhood of 450RWHP (01 Lightning)? I have Sean Hyland Motorsports about 10minutes from me so that will be of some help. What would be needed to surpass 400RWHP and put me close to 450?

Hey guys thanks for all the info. And I apologize for my lack of knowledge but I really dont know much about aftermarket support for Lightnings.

Cruised through the two local SVT lots and the one dealer has five L's sitting outside, 3 Silver and Two Red (love the red). And the other has 4, 1 Silver, 2 Black (love the black aswell), and 1 Red.

I'm really having a struggle within myself. Up until yesterday I was basically ready to order a 01GT and a Paxton Novi 2000 blower. However for some reason I want a change of pace (had a 99GT) and I think the L could be it.

again sorry for my lack of knowledge on Lightning Mods but could someone please list the basic boltons and what gains should be seen with each...and the price aswell if thats not too much to ask.

One more thing. What company makes lowering springs for these trucks? what is the avg drop? anyone have pics?
thanks
