2001 engine in my '00 bolt, except. . .
First Post- Been reading the site since July and finally able to get online. Just want to share some info and see if anyone has had similar experiences.
My engine started knocking at 540 miles. I learned about Ford's piston slap issues after reading this site and was able to determine that this was not piston slap because it did not go away after the engine was warmed up. It could be heard from 30ft away. Sounded like a bad lifter might sound. After going to two dealerships (the one I purchased truck at insisted it was piston slap and refused to help any further) and finally meeting with regional customer service rep. I was able to convince the shop foreman at Drew Ford and service rep that this was not piston slap but something else. They replaced the engine at 1500 miles with a 2001 crate motor(I saw the engine sitting on the pallet). When I got the truck home I realized they had swapped manifolds and blowers as I had my original blower. When I questioned them about this they stated they had installed the entire engine but were then unable to hook up the O2 sensors to the new wiring harness. They made some calls to the factory and were told to put the orignal blower back on. Apparently, this was their first Lightning engine swap.
I wanted the new intercooler more that the 20 extra horses but at least they did the right thing and replaced the motor with one that sounds like it belongs in a $30,000 vehicle. They did an excellent job on the swap, also.
Great site and glad to finally be on board.
No leak but only sitting at 2700 miles.

I work at a Ford Dealer. We have the 2001 Lightning crake motors in stock. Ther is a letter with them that states: If you ordered a 1999 or 2000 model engine code 9G250AA-S/C Lightning....You were shipped one of the 2001 engine codes 1G250AA. You need to swap- complete upper and lower intake, wiring and vac harness, crankshaft dampner and water pump.

Steve, I recall the shop foreman mentioning that those other parts had also been changed out. I wanted to know why. To the best of their knowledge it had to do with EPA emissions requirements as regarding that particular model year.

Mine is in the shop right now for pretty much the exact same thing. I have been told they are replacing the engine but dont know any more details than that. Waiting on the motor to arrive. Do you know if they put the 2001 computer in your truck or is it still the 2000 computer? I was really hoping to get a 01 intercooler so this is not good news.

Sam,
They did not change out the computer. I read another post stating some owners had their computer re-programmed from a "cux 1" to a cux 2". I don't believe that was done to mine but you may want to ask about it. Unfortunately, as Steve said, they will not put the new cooler in as it would necessitate changing the entire upper assembly out. Good luck and I hope you swap goes as smoothly as mine did.
