Here's a comparitive point: My 96 LT1 Vette weighs 3300 lbs, has been dynoed at 315 hp and runs 13.6's at it's best. My Lightning at same track conditions stock ran 13.8's. Do the math--I think the Germans don't stand a chance on this one.

Make very sure you get him from the start, do not spin (too much). This means dry conditions and not cold either. I usually go around 1/3 to 1/2 throttle as quick as I can, and then go to WOT during the next .5 to 1 second. Do not powerbrake, it will probably result in a spin on the street and on the F1's. I turn off the O/D but it does not make a difference.

Make sure he does not have a turbo...

His M3 is stock, no turbo.
He's thinking of getting a supercharger, and that's how the conversation got started.
I thought if his M3 was supercharged, it would be a good race for my L, but he wanted to go at it stock/stock.
That's when I said, well, if you really want to, but it wouldn't be much of a fair fight.
Oh well,it'll be fun for me.

If it is a stick and he can drive it well it will be a good race. Make sure you only do a 1/4mi race. Do not try him on the top end. My last M3 was a 1997. Best stock 1/4 I ran was a 13.7?. The stock computer limites the top speed to 155mph. With the limiter removed I topped out at 168mph.

you went 168 in an M3?
I didn't know that was physically posible with 240 horses on a 3200 lb car.
impressive.

I wouldn't ever take my L past 120, I just don't think the suspension is what it should be for any amount of controll at those speeds.

My Cobra is set up for track speeds in the range of 150 - 200, but it's suspension has been extremely modified for it.

Oh, you'd be amazed! It's my old vette that scared me past 120. This morning I cleared the cobwebs out of my truck in stock form because I hadn't receive my chip and JDM parts back yet. A quick full throttle from 70mph on the four lane in a short distance produced nearly 130mph. One handed driving too. That's why I love this truck. No sweat.

You'll beat him. If it was a new M3, you're gone.

Question My 2001's first race!

A friend at work has a BMW M3, and he's dying to race me.
Seems to think he'll waist me, but I told him that he's in for a huge surprize.
His car is 240 hp and 3200 lbs, mine is still bone stock at 380 and 4600.
What do you guys think.
Am I in for a challenge or is this a no-brainer?
I've never raced a BMW, and my truck has only 500 miles on her at present.

Only 120 for the Lightning? I think it depends on the road...go to www.svtperformance and look for the thread called LAND SPEED PHOTO. It's under ROAD SIDE CAFE or GEN 2

The 2000L will run 145 mph, no prob! Of course @ 120 or 140 mph, little control will be on-hand, should one need to maneuver say to miss an animal or truck tread in the El Road-o...However, the truck feels good and in control at high mph's To be totally honest, the Lightning out performs both the '94 and '96 COBRA mustang's (I've previously owned) in power, handling and ride comfort. The '94 Cobra would have no problem staying with a Bud of mines M3. The '96 Cobra would take the M3 in the 1/4 mile but not @ max speed.
