Splitfires break on me!
I installed the splitfires for my truck about 1 month ago and it ran fine for about a 1000 miles then on saturday i noticed a loss of power and a vibration when i gave it gas so i took it to my ford dealer today to see what the problem was and they pulled the #8 plug and the tip was completely broke off then they pulled the #2 plug and it was cracked and ready to break anytime, not sure what the other 6 look like they are pulling them tommorrow.By looking at the #2 plug they said it was burning the right color so a lean issue was not the problem.I guess i am the first to have problems with these and hope it is a isolated incident so do pay close attention to this if you have them in your truck!

Matt,
I hate to hear that. I can't believe the plug problems in general we're having, from blowing them out the head to catastrophic engine damage from breakage.
Sorry again.
Oh yeah, being a former Chevy guy, are the cylinder #'s 1,2,3,4 on the passenger side and 5,6,7,8 on the drivers? Reason I ask is because GM is even #'s on passenger side and odd #'s on driver's.

Does that make the NGK's the best/safest bet?

I dunno about the NGK's. I'm almost positive somebody had one of those break too. In fact, I'm sure of it...I just can't remember who. High Risk, maybe??
On another note, FWIW, Sal posted on SVTPerformance that he uses Autolites - part #103. I gotta admit, those are great plugs in everything I've used them in, even though I've not tried them in the L.

Matt,
Every plug has failed except the Splitfires until now. I guess we are batting a 1000. The stock plugs have the worst record by far.
I agree with gforce. The Autolites were my first choice but could find no plug number. We might have something to go on now.

MRBBQMAN,
The whole part of the fork was completely gone like there never was one to begin with, and the other plug they pulled he showed me where cracks were developing where the other broke off at!
bobcmt
I never had any detonation problems that could of caused this,my truck is running safe with the chip i am using!

Update,
I had the remaining 6 plugs pulled today and they told me they had 1 more plug that the tip broke off and the others were fine that is a total of 2 broken plugs and 1 cracked plug all in less than 1 month of driving!I just hope the broken tip pieces did not go into the exhaust valves.

Thanks Rick. I saw Sal's post on the other board too. I bought a set on the way home today for 99 cents each. I thought I be a guinea pig again. The center electrode and ceramic are the same length as the stock plug. They look like they are gapped tighter (maybe around .035") from the factory. Well at least the one plug I looked at did. When I asked for Autolite 103's the guy asked me if I wanted the regular type. I said yes. I don't know if they make them in platinum or not. It would probably have some kind of designator in the # like 103P if they did. I will try them out and let everybody know how they work.
Matt, that is strange to have 3 bad pugs out of 8. I took mine out after a couple of months and gapped them down tighter. I reinstalled them with 5 more months on the clock. They have about 8,000 miles on them and several passes at the track.
I was planning on changing plugs in this application every 10,000 miles anyway for safety's sake. Since I have an Autolite # now I'm going to try these plugs out. For a buck each you can't go wrong if they work.
Off to the garage!!!
