Question Tonneau cover and bedrug

Months away from getting my 00 and already planning on what to do to it. 2 questions: Where can I purchase a bedrug and what is the approximate price? (I'm in Phoenix). What type of tonneau covers do some of you have and what kind of feedback can you give. I've seen the type that are covered in vinyl and sit inside the perimeter of the bed and then I've also seen the fiberglass painted types that go over the perimeter of the bed. Do either one of these types have a lock? I have a roll top cover on my Dodge and that won't be the type I put on my L.

After lots of research I settled on the BedRug liner. Cost me $350 installed.

After even more checking, I got an A.R.E. LSII hard tonneau cover. Paid $699 painted to match and installed. Added carpeting to the underside of the lid to match the BedRug for an additional $65.

Total installed price for the combo was $1,115, plus tax.

Lots of $$ but it looks great (tons of compliments) and provides a houmongus sized safe, secure (it locks), dry and dust-free storage space.

Both units are guaranteed for life. I love 'em and would do it again in a heartbeat!

I don't know if you're interested in soft tonneau covers but I've tried 2 on my Lightning already. The Extang ones have a much better fit than the Tekstyle ones, unless Tekstyle sent me a defective one.

Peter B,

I agree with Mike about the BedRug, it may cost a little more than the Iron Horse (?) product, but it is certainly worth it IMHO.

You can check 'em out at www.bedrug.com. I got mine for $319.00 and covered it with a SnugLid fiberglass tonneau w/the underside carpeted to match the rug. That unit, painted and installed, came to about $725.00 (including tax) so Mike and I are about equal in cost (or least in the ballpark).

My SnugLid can be removed for tall duty in about 2 minutes, single handed if necessary, but it's easier w/2 people. It also has two locks, one on each rear corner. you can check it out at http://www.snugtop.com/p_snuglid.htm .

Not taking anything from ARE, they make a great product, but I liked the smooth top design of the SungLid better myself. A case of personal taste (or lack thereof, take your pick).

Just my .02 worth....

Chuck's right about the differences between the Snuglid and ARE tonneaus. Both are good products - just different strokes for different folks.

It's true that the A.R.E. is a lot heavier and more difficult to remove. However, it's very strong (built like a bank vault - hence the lifetime warranty) and will accomodate slightly taller cargo with the lid closed, plus I really like the way it covers up the factory's grey plastic bed rail protectors.

Bottom line: You can't go wrong either way. Just pick the one that turns you on the most. Be sure, however, to get the BedRug regardless.

C U L8R,

I ordered mine and had it installed through a truck specialty shop in Alvin, Tx. (outside of Houston). The name of the shop is Lil' Tuck's and they carry a ton of stuff for all kinds of trucks.

I don't work there or own a piece of it, but do like thier work. They don't have a website that I am aware of yet, but I can get further info for you if you are interested. Email me off line if you want more data.

Thanks guys for the reply, and thanks Wyldman for the website addresses. Yeah, looks to me I'll definitely go with the BedRug. Not quite sure on which tonneau. Sounds like the ones you guys are talking about, I can't go wrong. I want a very nice quality one. I was at the new car show here in Phoenix a few weeks ago and saw the Harley Davidson Ford pickup. It had a neat looking tonneau, but when I lifted it, it was real flimzy and appeared to be made from ABS plastic. I definitely do not want a cover like that in Phoenix AZ as our temps get into the 115's in the summer. Thanks again for the info.

I ran into a white Lightning in Irvine the other day (anyone on this list?) and he had a new tonneau from Innovation industries. It wrapped around the top so you didn't have the sandwich appearance, and it also had a pretty slick rear spoiler as part of the mold. It blended in with the truck real well.

Peter:
I recommened the LSII lid without any reservation. Check it out at http://www.4are.com/ . There is a picture of my truck with the lid under the "Customer Trucks" section. If it doesn't pop up right away, look further under the Ford category. Hope this helps.

Peter,

I got my BedRug and A.R.E. lid at Cap World. Good people. Quality work and true to their word. Their website is at: http://www.capworld.com/ . Looks like all their stores are on the east coast, however.

Peter,
Ordered my BedRug from Quality Bumper in Phoenix. Price was great and it was easy to install. If you order from their web site http://www.qualitybumper.com/ they have a coupon for 10% off. Also they have about 8 locations in the Phoenix area for installation. I have a SnugLid that I really like. I had it installed in Prescott Valley. The installed price was about the same as others are reporting. I live in Sedona and no effects of heat yet.
