Question The leftovers are tempting me...

I know I've beaten this to death but I'm really being tempted by the leftover 00's around here. I've found dealers going a fair bit below invoice on new 00's that don't have any mileage. That price point really fits where I'd rather be on my next car purchase which (due to a lease expiring in about 20 days). My other alternative is to wait several more months, gather up some more cash down on the 01 and still be on the high side of the 00. Are the intercooler problems, suspension clunks, and other 00 issues that prevalent and are they going to make me regret not having the patience to wait for the 01? Any help or opinions would be appreciated!

(Its real tough having these kinds of problems isn't it?)

slowsuv,
I would buy a 2000 at a good price especially if it had no miles on it. Then again, it is your money and you can do whatever you want with it. Also, everything that has been do ne for the 2001's can be retrofitted to the 2000's, just a thought. The fix for the 2000 I/C leak should be just around the corner.

Contrary to popular belief, all Lightnings do not have the clunk, intercooler leaks, etc. My 2000 has 14,000 miles on it and I have zero problems with it (other than I have 2 hundredths of a second to gain to get into the 13's… to be remedied in April ). I say go for the 2000. You won’t be sorry.

I was going through the same thing in November. I bought a brand new 2000 for 27000 in December. Nota bad price, a good saving and I love it. Like most others have said there is very little differance in the 2000 v 2001. ALL Ls are very cool. You will not be dissapointed. Just think you could add all the mods and still be under the price of a 2001. I am guessing you would still be 3000-4000 better of.

Can someone describe the I/C leak and help me relate to just how painful it is to deal with and maintain? I know its a sealed leaked, but can the fluid be 're-filled' or is it just a gradual drain until the IC is useless? I'm fairly IC ignorant (but learning).

Thnks

The only way to deal with it is replacement. The IC is a small "radiator"under the blower. It is sealed and when it leaks the fluid goes into the combustion chambers. You can refill the res. but it will do the same thing.

Cool

I was at the dealer today. They had a 2000 and a 2001 in the show room. the only thing I like on the 2001 is the mirrors and the 3rd brake light. They want $28,100 for the 2000 and msrp for the 2001. Hope this helps make up your mind.

Now you guys have done it. I said the exact samething a few 1000 miles ago when I had 14,000 miles on the L. Not me, I do not have an I/C leak. Then 3,900 miles later, the leak

Go with the 01...with the total intake upgrade, the gears, the lights , the shocks, tire compound, I think there is something about the warranty also. Am I missing anything?
