Question Noises in the Dark.

Had the Techs listen to a weird noise coming from the engine. At first I thought it was a heat shield rattle, then I noticed it got more pronounced when I cut the climate control fan on. Not thet I put it in the ac position but over to the right. Swith on noisier.Switch off quieter but still some rattle sound. One tech believes its in the tranny converter area. The other is convinced it is coming from the motor in the right rear area around a freeze plug. Me I think its a pulley bearing or a load on the altenator. Wasn`t there a service notice about the blower belt making noise ? This doesn't sound like piston slap. I vaguely recall someone mentioning a valve cover problem. Any one recall anything that might point something out. The noise is only noticable at idle. sound ratty.

The only weird noises I remmeber were for a short period of time when there was a high pitched sound coming from inside the cab when I was at a stop light, or pulling into my parking spot. I couldn't hear it oustide, but when I shut my truck off, it would wind down. Like a few others that experienced that sound, mine went away.

So they know if its from the climate control system, r the powertrain?

How about those loose lower pulley bolts or whatever they were. Some were actually falling out.

Ditto on curmudgens post. Had a 98 F150 with almost identical problem. Dealer advised replacing all accesory drive pulleys. After about $300 woth of pulleys and still no fix, zone rep called. Harmonic balancer bolts lose/missing. Problem fixed, full refund on the pulleys.
