Paul:

The BellTech 3/4 kit comes with new/smaller bumpstops. Kit includes hangers, shackles and front springs.

Nice quality kit.

The other issue that I have yet to see addressed is the angle of the shocks compared to the direction that the axle is traveling. Look at the stock rear shocks on an L. One goes forward and at an angle of about 45 deg. The other goes to the rear at about that same angle. This is done to hide/cover up a problem with the torque of the rear axle trying to turn the springs into an S shape when you jump on the gas. The two different directions that the shocks go is to keep the shocks from causing a similar S bend in the springs when you hit a vertical bump. The real problem when you lower the truck even farther is that these shocks goto an even shallower angle and do even less in bump. (Wheel travel)*(cos angle)=(shock travel) To make things even worse, You run out of vertical travel due to the bumpstops. Stock the L rear suspension has only about 4 inches of suspension travel B4 you start to hit the stops. If you lower the truck..All of these things get worse. The solution to this whole mess is to build a real independent rear suspension starting with a dif out of a SVT Mustang R or an old Jag that has as I remember a 9" Ford Rear but the street rodders have grabed most of them. The Vet rear would most likely be strong enough. Bottom line, Lowering an L has some baggage that goes along with it.

Hope this helps

Question

How about adding 2 more shocks at the rear, so that each wheel will have 2 shocks, one pointing forward and 1 rear. This way you will have double the cosine of the force in the shock, holding/stabilising the axle.

Thumbs up

BlackLight

Interesting Idea but what you would need to do is mount two new shocks vertical to control bump and let the two stock ones control wheel hop. The new shocks would need to be real short or you could cut holes into the bed and mount them to the roll cage. Cool...we can now justify the new cage. Wile we are at it we can mount the 5 point harness to it.

Sounds like something out of a Mustang with their quad shock system. If you go with a IRS, use the one from the T-Bird. It was designed for a heavier vehicle than the Cobra one, and might last for 2 launches.

would a drop of just 1" in the front and 2" in the rear run into these same problems?

Question

Andy
Looking at the pic of your autocross car from your signature, it seems as if you are very close to de-beading the front tire. How much pressure are you running ?
