No actually the bulbs come out extremely easily. What you do is unscrew the two screws holding the fixture on, then the bulbs have a rubber base with the wires coming out of it that you simply twist counter-clockwise and then they pop out.

Interesting news.

So, my 02 may ALSO have the wrong bulbs, since the ones that are in there appear to be labeled as "OQE921" bulbs (seeming to be a "921"). The rubbery sockets are a bit discolored / brownish near the bulb, but nothing appears to have melted. My bulbs have never been changed since the truck was bought new.

I looked in the manual (I think page 69 or 70), and it says that the cargo bulbs are 912. The dealer says it's a 912. I'm not sure what else to say, other than that I'd be interested if a few others on this board could check theirs. Next time I'm in for service, I will be having them check those out.

Do you have any other electrical problems? Might want to check the voltage at the socket (with and without the engine running), just to see what's happening. I'd think that if the voltage was THAT far off, you'd see other major problems.

VERY strange.
