Even if you do run that chev (shivers) against the "L" it won't stand a chance, the Lightning has WAY to much foot punds it will smoke the chev but it still should be alot of fun let me know how the out come is

my two cents

You lucky bum!! Im a big 'Vette fan too. So tell us what color. Hate to say it but the L doesn't have a chance against a Z06

Thumbs up

Bad Pit,
congratulations I love my L but would love to make some more room in my garage for the z06. If your L is modified it should be a pretty good race. I think the z06 runs around 12.8 or so, thats flying for stock. Have fun with them both Bill

BP nice choice with the Z06 - what color combo did you get? MSRP?

I am thinking of getting a 2002, but I don't know anymore. Lots of the Z06 folks seem a bit disappointed that they can't run 0-60 in 4 seconds as advertised, although they are still sub 5 sec. cars.

Rumor has it the 2003 anniversary edition will be the one to get.

Of course by that time the Viper will probably be in the 500+ HP and TQ range so chevy better do more work on that supercar.

Let us know how it goes against the 99 L. Also I would love to see a picture of the L and the Z06 next to each other. Could you do that please?

**By the way the Truckin' Lightning was running sub 5 second 0-60 times before the tranny blew up. Have to say the Lightning even sets higher standards for what I expect from a real sports car.

Has anyone seen the rumor of a 405 hp and 405 lb.ft Z06 coming soon ?
I would love to have a Z06 so I can tow it to Auto-X with my L...

Yep, I heard the bigger motor is coming out next year?! Who knows?!

Blacklight... but when you got to the event, would you autocross the L or the Z06?!

The Z is black on black. MSRP was 48,885. There are only 5 options and it has all 5. From what I have read on the Z06 board they are underrated at 385 hp and are putting out over 400 now. I hope this is true. I am getting real antsy because I only drove it from the showroom to a storage building on the dealers lot because the streets were kinda sloppy here in North Dakota. I am hoping for a nice day later this week to take the thing home and see how it runs! When its broken in I will run it against the Lightning because it seems the only races I can get around here are against my own vehicles!

I drove my Mom's new Zo6 the other day. I didn't get to do any WOT's , but you can tell it has some serious power. Most stock Z's are dynoing around 330-340 which is quite a bit more than 385 from the factory. On the strip, the Zo6 should take the Lightning, but the clutch would be tricky. Unless of course the Zo6 was racing Johnny Lightning...
You really have to look at the trap speeds, though. Although they are pulling an average of high twelves, they are trapping around 113+mph. I think they are capable of low 12's with go driver. Add some mods, well..
I may just get the opportunity to run against my mom's beast, if my lightning gets here soon. I'll let you know..

Sorry i have raced C5's on the street and at the strip and have never had one within 2 lengths of me.Now a ZO6 is a different story i have seen where they run 12.30's on sticky tires. All the C5's i have raced at the track with a 6 speed ran between 13.2 and 13.6 depending on driver! If we ran a stock L against a C5 6 speed with decent driver i agree the C5 would win in the 1/4 most of the time, because most L's run 13.60's to 14.0's stock!

Matt

I had a Vette, never got much use out of it. Took it on one route 66 run and that was about the extent of it. Afraid to leave it anywhere it sat under a car cover most of the time. Always wanted a Vette all my life, but when I finally got one it wasn't such a big deal. Kept it one year and when it was time to register it again I said bye. Really didn't even miss it, thought I would. The "L" is like one with a pickup bed, works better for me. Good Luck with yours, get a good radar detector you'll need it.

I have a 2000 Lightning and a 2001 Z06. I bought the Lightning to pull the Z06 to and from track events. Now the Z06 is a dedicated racer and the Lightning is my daily driver.

I love both vehicles.

Having said that, the Lightning doesn't compare to the Z06. It is a completely different animal. The Lightning weighs 4500 pounds and the Corvette weighs 3000 lbs (I've weighed the vette).

The Lightning is easier to drive fast. Just put your foot down. The vette requires quite a bit more talent but the rewards are definitely there.

Have fun!
