Second Thoughts Big Time

I AM HAVING SECOND THOUGHTS ABOUT KEEPING THIS TRUCK. A few weeks ago i posted that i did the right thing by keeping it. I must say i was very proud for a few weeks but this last run of events has broken me down. When i started modding this truck past the cheap easy mods(pulley, tune, cai) i have had nothing but problems. The ported blower took months to get fixed, and this whipple install has been nothing but a big pain in my a$$. As soon as i get something fixed or think i have found what was causing problems something else goes wrong. If i had sold the truck and took the money i spent on it this year alone i could be driving a very nice c5 z06 or 03-04 cobra. The wife and I were talking about everything today and i told her once i get the truck fixed it may be f/s (with current mods). Even if my fuel pressure issues are a simple fix i have lost the pride and joy of owning a lightning. Owning a lightning is about modding one and having fun with it. HE!! i dont want to think of what kind of issues i would run into with a built long block and built trans. if i bought cheap parts or beat my truck to death it would be diff. MAY BE A SUPER CLEAN WHIPPLE POWERED LIGHTNING F/S SOON. i think of how many times i wanted to sell this vehicle and that alone tells me i dont need to keep it. If i really wanted to keep it/or loved it like i thought i did i would not even think about selling it. little problems would not cause me to think twice about the mods i have purchased.

I know EXACTLY how you feel dude. My last mustang (1990 GT) was one I never should have bought. I got to do some mods to it like a CAI, full exhaust with dumps, a Z-spec T5, 3.73 gears but eventually it started nickel and diming me to death. I never got to invest money where I wanted to because I kept having to replace/fix stuff. Eventually one day I noticed the car acting funny and hesitating. I was low on gas so I filled the tank and about 3 miles from the house the fuel pump dies on me. I managed to limp it home backfiring and cutting out constantly and decided that was it. That was the straw that broke the camels back. I replaced the pump and started looking for another vehicle and eventually got the Lightning I have now. The stang sat until I parted the whole thing out and sent it on it's merry way to the junk yard. I even kicked it goodbye! I think that with all the issues you seem to be having maybe it would be a good idea to sell it, take a step back and eventually get another L or something else you want. Good Luck with everything bro...

i had the same issue, blew a motor and then shot a plug a week after i got it back. i got frustrated, traded it in, took a bath. 6 months later i was buying another L because i missed the experience of the drive. get it straightened out and stop modding and enjoy it for awhile.

Putting on a whipple before installing a wideband and FP gauge is kinda retarded IMHO, there are many many people more modded than you are with no issues......maybe it's not all your trucks fault??

If you bought a Z06 or a Cobra you would be modding it and having the same issues. You have to remember that being a high performance vehicle it will require a little more TLC than a normal car and that the truck is 8 years old now so when you add power to it stuff is bound to break.

lol
it is my fault that the new fuel pumps went out in 10 miles. If it turns out to be another bad fuel pump it is my fault? three diff. vendors have seen or looked at pics of my whipple install and told me it was right. so i guess my lack to two gauges is my huge downfall. i am very happy for the guys out there that have no problems. BUT there is a lot of people that have had very bad luck with more mods than you , me, etc.

Looks like it's the parts you're putting on the truck, not the truck. You could run into the same problems with the C5, Z06, or Cobra. These vehicles won't be fast enough either. You'll mod them as well. Additionally, It cost a fortune to get rid of a hot ride and build another.

Whassup Bro

Your Whipple install has unfortunately been one for the record books : o (
I mean hell I dont think I've ever heard anyone have a good install, their instructions bite, and the design of the upper (blocking your sparkplugs) is outright rediculas. BUT THE END RESULTS and the power it's capable of giving you (with the correct set up), is just outright WOO HOO!!!
DONT GIVE UP!!!

As for being plagued with problems believe me I can &%$&^@$ relate (the old 02). For the first 3 years only I turned the wrenches and there was never one single issue (and thats spraying the schitt out of it street and strip)
BUT once I decided to go built and put it in the hands of others the trouble all started, (mainly because I tried to go built on a buget). You can only go so far on your own before you sometimes need the help of the "correct" people, then you'll never have another issue with it
(unfortunately yes these days that could mean giving it up for a yr, or more..)
OR
sell it and buy one already done, WOO HOO 3rd TIMES A CHARM

WORK THROUGH IT BRO it's much cheaper than selling, losing, and then starting over... GOOD LUCK

As I stated yesterday,( but my post was mysteriously deleted) , Dump it, your not happy with it, so why deal with it, Lifes too short to be chained to those kind of problems. I'd think you can sell the mods, get some money back, put it back to near stock and sell...
