Post Need Shocks... Suggestions?

I'm doing shocks next week and needed some suggestions as to manufacturers and part #'s.

The L has already had the BellTech 3/4 kit installed so the shocks will have to be for a lowered application.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Rich....It seems you don't have a problem spending the bucks on your L, so my suggestion is to go to Koni or Edelbrock and get double adjustable shocks. That will allow you to tune the rebound and compression dampning for any application. As an example, if you are doing the 1/4 mile thing you might want less rebound and more compression at the rear and a little less compression and a little more rebound at the front. OK..Thats my two cents worth.

Mike:
Great idea. Didn't realize you could do that.

Killa:
You wouldn't still have the part# would you?

Question

Why not get a set of the Bilsteins that the 2001's are using? I just put a set on my TBird and all I can say is "WOW!". they do make a huge difference.

Chuck:

Stock Billsteins probably would have been my first choice, but the L sits 2" lower(front) and 3" lower(rear).

Stock shocks would run compressed all the time from what I'm told and would wear out much faster.

What Land Speed said. Spend the money and get something adjustable. Will make a difference in the overall ride and handling. Adjust it for the track then soften it back up for the street if thats what you like. Koni, Bilsteen, or Penske if you want to spend real money.

Rich, I did the BellTech 3/4 kit and used the BellTech nitro-active shocks. The part numbers were two of the 10022, and two 10535. They seem to be pretty good shocks.. Bill

I am also interested in the 2001L's Bilstein shocks. Does any one have part numbers for them, pricing, and does any one know for sure if they will work on the 1999 and 2000 lightnings.

The 2001 shocks are like 65 bucks a piece from shockwarehouse.com. I don't know the exact part #. I'm debating getting some of these myself. At least the rears if not all 4.

I also use Nitro Slammer Nitrogen shocks with a lowered 2000. Looked up Koni's and could not find a direct replacement. Probably have to cross it and then find one designed for a heavy vehicle.

Hey Rich....

Edelbrock makes a nice application for lowered vehicles. I don't have the part numbers off hand, but they are what I plan to get. I have a 2/3 drop on mine, but I'm sure it would work fine of your 3/4 also.

Hey Rich,

What caused you to determine that you needed new shocks? Tires cuping or bouncing? I have 32K on mine and the shocks seem fine.
