cost of rebuild?

i have a 2000 lightning that i have had in storage for the last 6-7 months because of the gear box seals broke and my power steering fluid just leaked out which caused my pump to go bad then not to long after that the engine developed a horrid rod knock so i parked the truck.

so my question is how much does a stock rebuild cost? and how hard is it for someone with ok to good mechanical skills to do? i have rebuilt the motor in my dodge stealth twin turbo (3.0 liter v6 twin turbo charged) some people say a engine is a engine but for some reason i am very intimidated by the motor in my L so im debating on having a shop do all the work (i know it probably going to be a lot of money but i need to get the truck running again)

so whats the going rate of a rebuild? and how much will i save if i do the work?

thanks in advance

Chris Terrell

If your looking to do a STOCK rebuild then I would buy a new motor and just swap it out. Check this link often http://www.karkraft.com/new_engines.htm
and you will find a new motor for under 3K
All I see right now is 5.4 3V's "take outs" for 2295.00
and built 5.4 3v's for 3295.00
Maybe call them and tell them your looking for a new L motor (or maybe a Take Out)

Or there's this guy that sells a 5.4 Rebuilt for 2477.00 (7yr / 70,000 wrrnty)
Plus 300.00 core charge

If you hunt around you shoud def be able to put a fresh new stock motor in there yourself for under 3K, Good Luck
