Question What would you do?

Here's my dilemma. There are several 2000s around here for approx 25-26 (before taxes) with no real mileage. However, the 01's are starting to show up on the lots with prices around here at 30500. I can wait to make a buy for several months so I'm thinking that the 01's with their higher production numbers are going to be sitting around by the end of summer. I should then be able to do better than 30500 (though not 25500..). I'm betting that I could get one for a happy median between those two prices. What do you think (ie, am I totally clueless)?

Thanks

Get the 2001. Hopfully a better Inter Cooler, gears already changed (saves you about $500-$600), etc

The 99's sold quick. But there were some 2000's hanging around several months after they hit the lot. I think you are right that there will be 2001's available in several months that you could buy at a savings. Since you can't buy right now, I would wait and get a 2001 from a dealer that is willing to deal.

Slow:

I spoke with the SVT powertrain engineers a while back about the 7000 production numbers. I let them know our concerns(existing L owners) about keeping the exclusivity of our vehicles. Actually it was a "Hey, you said you we're only gonna build 4000, WTF".

They said that the 7000 number is just a projection and most likely won't be built. They just wanted to be prepared for the demand if neccessary is what I got out of the conversation.

Tom's right about the 2000's kinda hanging around. There is still a healthy demand for the Lightnings, but if many are like me, I wouldn't be willing to trade for a new one at this point.

Now with the clear tails and blocky wheels, they may have reduced the demand even further.

To summarize: I wouldn't wait until summer to see a bunch of them on the lots. I don't think we'll see 7000 produced, IMHO.

Unless you like screwing around with leaky intercoolers, get the '01. Its a no brainer.
